I am a down-to-earth therapist whose main orientation is to help clients have more of the lives they want. No matter what the specific issues are - anxiety, depression, eating issues, relationships, family stress, work issues, mental health concerns, and so on - I endeavour to help my clients feel, think, and behave in ways that fit better for them and are ultimately more productive. In the safe space of counselling clients are able to explore themselves, their patterns, and life-obstacles in order to connect to their greater sense of purpose, wholeness, and groundedness.

We offer new skills and ways of thinking to help you connect to yourself, your partner, friends, family, and Nature.
Are you overwhelmed by your situation? Sometimes dealing with the present moment feels heavy when our past adds to the difficulties. Our thoughts, emotions, and even body sensations can weigh us down and make us feel hopeless. You may have tried different strategies to make things better, and maybe they haven’t worked well. We know you are doing the best you can. Sometimes people need a bit of professional guidance. We believe that once trauma and limiting beliefs are cleared from the past, it’s easier to deal with the present. When you can connect to that bright genuine strong part of yourself, it is easier for you to handle life.

Contextual forces of family, community, historical events, and trauma shape the brain from conception through the lifespan. Less than optimal circumstances can lead to a compromised nervous system and the formation of maladaptive patterns in the brain and body. As a result, you may suffer from symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, poor emotional regulation, difficulty in relationships, addictions, dissociation; and even autoimmune disorders or physical symptoms that cannot be explained medically. If you want to heal stuck patterns, live authentically with more joy and less fear, and have better relationships, I can help!

Working from a relational stance, we join together to widen the perspective using lenses like Family Systems Theory, Attachment Theory, and AEDP, among others.
Life can be messy on the inside, even when it looks great from the outside. Often we can feel numb or overwhelmed inside. Alone. Are you seeking to gain insight and clarity around your habits, patterns or relationships? Do you feel your relationships are supporting you or keeping you stuck? How does your life feel to you: vital and juicy or stale and stagnant? How do you want your life to feel? And who were you meant to become? Perhaps you are navigating a significant life transition - exploring who you are and what's next. Often, counting ourselves in is the first step.

Sometimes we all need someone who can provide an objective viewpoint, outside of friends and family.
People go to therapy for many reasons, and all of them are equally valid. Whatever your reason is, I am so glad that you are here. You may be considering therapy right now because you are feeling stuck - stuck in difficult thoughts, feelings, emotions, behaviours, relationships, and/or situations. Or, you may be mostly doing fine and want to develop self-awareness and understanding to become the best version of yourself and to live your life to the fullest.

My practice is compassionately rooted in trauma-informed care, attachment and family systems theory.
My approach to my work is grounded in honesty, openness, trust and humor. In a world that is fast paced and sometimes unkind, my intention is to offer a gentle, understanding space where you can start to understand yourself, your emotions and take away tangible tools to help you continue to show up authentically. My goal is to help those I encounter leave feeling empowered with desire to thrive in their personal journeys, no matter what this may look like for you.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
