My general therapeutic approach is integrative and I have a particular interest in using cognitive-behavioural, attachment-based, and relational therapies to treat anxiety, depression, various phobias, chronic pain, stage-of-life issues (particularly mid-life issues), and couple relationship challenges.
Greetings! I consider it both an honour and a privilege to be held in a position of trust and to listen and respond to my clients’ unique, rich life stories. Since 2014, I have accumulated extensive clinical experience using cognitive-behavioural therapy and relational, person-centred interventions to treat adults with various psychological, emotional, and spiritual challenges. Irrespective of my therapeutic approach and the presenting issue, I place the highest priority on creating a warm and empathic, safe, non-judgemental space where my clients and I can collaborate to come up with workable short- and long-term solutions.

I have experience working with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, transitions, loss and grief, relationship challenges, identity exploration, HIV/AIDS, and trauma.
Stepping into therapy can be evocative. It invites us to delve into our inner world and befriend parts of ourselves who we discover - often the hurt, hidden, and hopeful. I join you for this journey as your guide and am committed to embodying collaboration, warmth, playfulness, curiosity, and compassion. In our space we will safely weave together your stories, explore meaningful insights, and experiment with new ways of being, feeling, and relating. My approach to care is rooted in anti-oppressive, intersectional, and trauma-informed frameworks. I also bring years of experience as a queer musician and music therapist into my work.

I see clients who struggle with existential crises, anxiety/depression, career and relationship struggles, parenting concerns, lack of motivation or confidence, or people who simply seek greater clarity, depth or direction in life.
As a philosophical therapist, I offer a supportive environment in which to explore your thoughts and emotions, as well as stimulating dialogue in which you will strengthen your ability to face challenges by using creative and deeply reflective thinking. The idea is to think big and come at problems from a fresh and sometimes surprising perspective. I also help problem-solve at the level of habits, when it's time to put our philosophical reflections into practice and make desired changes at the level of daily living. The goal is to discover a greater sense of possibility and to use that to live with greater clarity and authenticity.

I work with adults in individual, emotion-focused, psychodynamically-oriented psychotherapy, dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, obsessions and compulsions, loss, relationships, life-change and others.
Some problems are exceedingly difficult to solve on our own. We become accustomed to our way of understanding ourselves and our issues, and it is difficult to take a novel perspective. One of the main goals of psychotherapy is to provide a different lens to look through, so that we can begin to think differently about ourselves and our problems. A different perspective can provide the space to begin a process of change.

If you are done with feeling anxious and overwhelmed, check out my website to learn more about my approach and see if my services might be a good fit for you.
Do racing thoughts keep you up at night? Is fear and self-doubt holding you back? Do panic attacks leave you feeling paralyzed and out of control? If any of this resonates for you, there's two things I'd like you to know - you're not alone. And you're in the right place. Dealing with anxiety is exhausting. You spend so much of your time and energy just trying to feel better. But nothing seems to work, at least not for very long. It’s tough to focus at work, you can't sleep, your relationships are suffering, and just getting through the day can feel impossible.

Thank you for being here! I work with adults who may experience emotional and behavioural difficulties. I specialize in treating anxiety disorders, OCD, depressive disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, racial trauma, grief and loss, and other relational problems. I also work with those who have experienced childhood trauma. In my work, I consistently and sincerely acknowledge the importance of the transgenerational impact of acculturation on our beliefs, worldviews, and sense of self. I genuinely believe that we are not broken, so we do not need "fixing;" instead, we work to be the self we want to be!

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
