I help clients with a variety of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, addictions/substance misuse, and trauma. My clients are in charge of stating what they want to work in in therapy, but sometimes they need a bit more help understanding what's troubling them, and I help in this regard too. Non-judgement and unconditional positive regard is the general vibe clients can expect when working with me.

Do you struggle with feeling overwhelmed and stressed? Do you question if you're using your time in the best way? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers and their lives. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe it shouldn’t be so hard to live a better life. When working together we will build that better life.

Our lives are full of uncertainty. Navigating relationships, managing anxiety, and finding joy may be challenging. It can be lonely trying to go through all of this by yourself. Having someone to share your journey with and help you process the challenges, changes, and unknowns of your life may help you find the peace that you've been seeking.

Whether you are dealing with more recent difficulties or what seem like life-long issues, I want to help you find strategies, tools, and perspectives that allows you to take the unmanageable and make it manageable. I believe that the client is the expert on their own life, and therapy should be motivated by the goals and issues that are important to them. If you are feeling lost or unsure which direction you want to move in, that is okay too! We can collaboratively explore and experiment to find a meaningful path forward. I have experience working with clients of all ages, and especially enjoy working with children and teenagers.

In person sessions available - Have you noticed yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stressed, sad or stuck? Perhaps you are going through changes in your life and are finding it difficult to cope. Maybe you feel like it's time to make a change. Reaching out for help can be hard, but know you are not alone. I provide a non-judgmental space so you can feel comfortable to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
