I offer therapy sessions in person and online via video.
During my years working with children and youth, I've seen play become an important tool as they move forward in life. As a counselling therapist, my play therapy certification will allow me to help children and youth manage stressful situations and emotions through play while helping to identify healthy coping strategies.

I offer in person therapy in a homey office setting as well as virtual services.
I believe in caring for people & treating them respectfully. I recognize the whole person is part of understanding their mental & physical health. I trust each individual understands their personal journey & that this reveals the pathway to their healing. Trauma can cause chronic pain, addiction, autoimmune diseases, ADHD & learning issues. The complexity of these is disclosed through careful listening & tracing patterns back through time. I understand this intricacy of healing emotionally is revealed when people are given the care, comfort and patience they need. I hope I might walk that journey with you.

Sessions are offered in-person and virtually, with availability that varies by day.
Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or caught in the same patterns can make it hard to know what to do next. Many people seek therapy during periods of stress, life transitions, or when anxiety or low mood start to interfere with day-to-day life. Others come in because relationships feel strained, motivation is low, or something feels off even though they are still functioning.

Hello! I’m so glad you’re here. As a dedicated clinical mental health counsellor, I aim to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel seen, heard, and supported. I believe that everyone has the potential for growth and healing. We are all human, and we all struggle at times. I am here to be that for you. I am here for you to share feelings, stories, worries, and even sometimes a much-needed laugh.

I offer in-person sessions in my Charlottetown office and online counselling for people in PEI or across Canada.
I have day and evening openings. You may carry the results of trauma: anxiety, depression, or grief. Current situations may activate feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness. Maybe you grew up without the emotional care that would help you thrive, or maybe your neurodivergence needed support that was not present. The way you coped no longer serves you, and you want to change and live in alignment with your values. If you are in survival mode, you can learn to regulate your nervous system so you can feel calm and open to hope. You can process the past. Whether it is about what happened or what didn't happen, trauma can be healed.

It features 24/7 online scheduling and the ability to offer appointments in person or online through secure telehealth platform.
In a crowded room you can feel completely alone. Disenchanted with the current life you are living and tethered to experiences and hurts of the past. You want to build relationships with those around you but end up in the same cycle of self-sabotage. Exhausted by the high expectations you hold for yourself and overcompensating for the benefit of others. Your wants and needs have taken a backseat for too long. It’s time for a change.

It is my passion to walk alongside individuals as they navigate life's struggles. I work with both individuals and couples. Anxiety, depression, PTSD and chronic pain are often a part of my conversation with clients. I have come to understand that trauma is much more prevalent than I once understood. Most of us have experienced painful events, that have the potential to shape our understanding of who we are and of the world around us. I love to engage with others in the journey of discovering clarity and truth in order to process trauma. As this happens, our thoughts and belief systems change.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?
One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialised therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?
Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?
The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
