My experience as an educator of children and adults with learning differences, intern at grief center and behavioral hospital, social worker in a hospice and The Woman's Hospital of Texas enhance my practice.
I am a certified EMDR therapist and am trained to offer EMDR Intensives. My client base is adult women. My areas of expertise are depression, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce, abusive relationships, life transitions, health issues, high risk pregnancy, end of life issues and death. My approach is supportive, insight oriented and empowering. Women often do not acknowledge their unique challenges and assign misplaced emotions and shame to their individual journeys. My goal is to help my clients heal, find meaning and strength in their experiences so that they can fully and authentically embrace the future.

I'm a licensed therapist specializing in parenting and family with a specialized focus on men's issues, grief, depression, anxiety, and trauma therapy.
Coparenting can be especially challenging during times of transition, and both men and women benefit from support in navigating these changes. I specialize in helping families, with a particular focus on fathers who often face stigma when seeking guidance. It’s important for fathers to feel empowered in their parenting roles, and I provide support in fostering collaboration between parents. Whether dealing with grief, school anxiety, or shifting parenting dynamics, I work to improve communication and create a nurturing environment for the whole family.

As a trained EMDR therapist, I specialize in traumatic grief.
Are you standing in the face of uncertainty in your life or career and confused as to how to move forward? Does performance paralysis settle in when considering a risk? Do you lack confidence and avoid social situations? Having lived through Hurricane Katrina, resulting in an abrupt relocation to St. Louis in 2008 (after forty years in Louisiana), I can relate to starting over, the absence of family, and the need for grounding. The Covid pandemic was a reminder of how quickly life can change and the necessity for resources. Cumulative traumatic grief is evident in its aftermath as is the need for trauma specialist care in healing.

The insight, understanding and perspectives that can be gained through therapy can be invaluable to our sense of well being, personal autonomy, and fulfillment. Although I have a generalist clinical practice--meaning I work with men and women who come to treatment for a variety of reasons---I have a special interest in treatment issues related to depression, loss, grief, life cycle transitions, and women's mental health. Other areas of interest include: diminished self esteem, abuse--sexual, physical and emotional, alcohol abuse, and issues related to individuals living with a terminally ill family member.

Therapy is a partnership that grows in an atmosphere of safety and acceptance. It allows one to rediscover the parts of selves which may have been disowned; to learn new skills to handle grief and distress; to build healthier, more nurturing relationships; and to gain access to one's own direct experience of the world. I nurture this collaboration with clients and recognize that within each of us there exists a deeper wisdom that, given adequate support, naturally moves toward healing and integration.

I myself know how hard it is to look inward and face overwhelming and painful feelings stemming from our relationships, traumas, losses, and obstacles in our own mind.
Aging, death, break ups, brain injury, major health diagnosis, addiction, family conflict, and dozens of life's other challenges are accompanied by grief. Grief and loss is part of a universal human experience that, despite it's commonality, is just as difficult every time for every one of us. As much as we'd like for these feelings to just disappear they can cause us to feel overwhelmed and hopeless until we find a way to integrate them, not "get over" them. I offer telehealth visits to adults and older adults in Texas and am accepting new clients.

Grief is a universal burden that we all must carry. Just like any heavy load, things can quickly feel unbalanced, putting goals at risk, interrupting progress, or shutting you down all together. You are not alone, and this is not just "all in your head." Finding a soft place to land, where it is safe to say what you are thinking and feeling, is important for healing and growth after life's traumas have touched your life. Therapy can be that place.

You are doing your best to hold it together, but worry or sadness weigh you down. You try to navigate through your day, but often feel anxious and exhausted. Maybe you’ve experienced grief or trauma. You want to improve, but wonder how to get things “unstuck”. You long for more focus and less worry, better relationships or more meaning in your life. As a therapist and Clinical Director of 25 yrs, I've helped many people during challenging situations and transitions of life. My approach is personable and holistic, blending a strong foundation of therapy knowledge, support, challenge and a dose of humor.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
