Are you feeling like you or your loved one should be getting more out of life than you have been? Sometimes we need a compassionate, objective person to help us sort out problems, regain perspective and enjoy life and our relationships again. It is important for you to feel a connection with your therapist and to sense that the therapist has your best interests at heart. I work from a solution-focused, experiential perspective, building on the power of the therapeutic relationship and clients' personal strengths to support lasting change while working with couples, families, individuals, and children.

I have extensive training in CBT, Motivational Interviewing, trauma therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and Gottman Method.
I applaud your willingness in taking this first step to engage in therapy. The first step is often the most difficult one and it shows notable courage that you’ve made that decision. If you’ve made your way here, chances are that you may be struggling in some aspect in your life. It may be life stressors, issues in a romantic relationship, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma or maybe you need to be able to speak with someone who will listen and empathize with you. Whatever the case may be, I want you to know that you’re not alone and that you can receive the support, care and guidance you’re looking for.

In my work as a therapist and organizational consultant over the last 35+ years, I have assisted youth, adults, families, and organizations in reducing barriers to and facilitating elements of healthy growth, functioning, and the achievement of goals. I work collaboratively with clients for I don't feel that I'm an expert on someone else life. We learn together what will work for you as the therapy progresses and by the work you do in therapy, it is hoped that you will reach the goals that you set for yourself at the very first appointment.

What is the goal of your marriage or relationship? Relationships are vital to becoming a whole person. At times, connecting with your spouse may feel magical, but every relationship goes through tough seasons. I understand how overwhelming it can feel when distance and resentment is the only thing growing between you. At times, it may feel like the hurt you are experiencing is not worth the effort. Maybe your relationship is still strong, but can stand a bit of tweaking to recapture the zest it once had. Whatever the case, there is always hope!

Living well longer is most people's aspiration, yet preventable disease remains our nation's most significant public health challenge. Integrative Health Care assesses and treats the "whole person" in order to improve health outcomes. My collaborative, individualistic work with patients aspires to not only improve quality of life and treat underlying mood, behavioral, and substance use issues but is also preventative. My other priority is helping those with chronic illness better manage these conditions.

Looking for a couples counseling? It's likely that you're struggling with many things in your relationship. It started well but you now have difficulty talking about things that mean a lot to you. It can be frustrating because you both sense that your relationship could be great if you could just figure it out. Both of you have worked on being good people, but something about where you are now requires new skills, a new step beyond. Couples counseling can help you develop those skills and take that step beyond. Let's work together.

You're someone who is looking to find just the right fit in a counselor. Maybe you are experiencing grief, or having difficulty adjusting to life changes. Perhaps you have a general sense of dissatisfaction with life, or have specific things you want to work through. Or, maybe you're feeling trapped by anxiety, or past trauma, and you want to feel a sense of hope; to be seen, heard, and understood. There is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to therapy, and the things you may want to work on are important and unique.

It often starts with the unexpected. Unexpected news, unanticipated turns, unforeseen circumstances, and sometimes the unimaginable. It is at these times we can often feel powerless, afraid, confused, and uncertain. Change for some can be unwelcomed and for other’s change doesn’t seem to come soon enough. We cannot always choose what we go through, but we can choose how we go through it. Many seek therapy due to hard-fought battles with a variety of life issues, such as depression, trauma, anxiety, relationship problems, parenting challenges, and experiences from the past that keep them from moving forward.

The opening of Dante's Inferno reads "Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost." This story of a person's journey through hell became a classic because all of us have found, at one time or another, that the straight path in our lives has been lost, and that we are alone in a dark forest. Do you feel lost? When we look a little closer, we begin to understand that most of the darkness around us is self-created. That forest was cultivated with the seeds of our past experience.

Gottman Method Therapists
How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.
Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.
How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.
Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
