My focus areas are addiction, substance abuse, problem gambling, trauma, depression, and anxiety.
Change is possible if you take the first step. I come from a place of understanding that making any changes in life can be difficult, even talking to a therapist! I believe therapy is like a conversation, which can make difficult situations feel more manageable and goals more attainable.

My specialty is children 10 and younger managing anxiety, depression, adjustment to major life transitions, abuse and neglect, behavioral difficulties at school and/or at home, ADHD, grief and loss, and helping families navigate our complex public school system and how to be the best advocate for your child.
I believe that you are the expert on your own experience. One of my goals is that the main benefit you, or your child, gains from therapy is that you become increasingly self-aware of your own strengths and how they can best serve you to overcome whatever you are facing. Although you or your family may be experiencing intense challenges, and you're not sure what the next step should be, you have also somehow made it to today, and that proof of strength should never be ignored. I would love to join with you in your next steps, one step at a time.

Taylor has worked in the field of mental health for nearly ten years involving direct contact with children, adolescent, and adult survivors of trauma. She has directly worked with survivors from various ranges of abuse and neglect to help instill physical safety, healthy boundaries, and hope. She firmly believes there is no “one way” to partake in therapy and sometimes it takes multiple attempts to bring light and awareness to those areas in our lives keeping us stuck and in the dark. She looks forward to supporting you during this time of healing and self-exploration.

Do you have to force yourself to get through the day? Do you feel disconnected from your life, as if just going through the motions? Familial and cultural conditioning often cast us in limiting roles. Whether we know it or not, we find ourselves falling into these same familiar patterns even when they undermine our best efforts towards a happy life. I help clients build an awareness to the relationship they have with themselves starting by identifying the character traits they've strengthened in order to survive. This ultimately allows them to move towards more self-compassion, freedom, and purpose in their lives.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
