I am passionate about the benefits of therapy and taking time to create a deeper connection with yourself. I believe humans are beautifully flawed and complicated, and that by learning to appreciate our imperfections, we can gain a sense of peace and compassion for ourselves and others. New research in the field of neuroscience is providing evidence to support what many clinicians empirically knew: people are forever growing and changing. Interpersonal connection is the access-point to creating meaningful change in our lives from a place of kindness, compassion and free from judgement.

In addition to traditional talk therapy, I incorporate elements of mindfulness, parts work, Jungian, and psychodynamic oriented approaches.
Do you yearn for a happier, more fulfilled life? Are you struggling with loss, life transition, trauma, depression or anxiety, or a life that feels unsatisfying? I understand how difficult it can be to start the journey of therapy. If you are willing to take this brave step, I am here to listen deeply to your story with non-judgement and compassion, join you in moments of laughter and tears, and journey with you through the scary places. Together we can uncover what gets you stuck, and take the steps necessary to transform your pain into restorative healing.

I am a licensed social worker and have completed a doctorate degree in clinical social work with application of psychodynamic theories.
As a psychotherapist, I am committed to providing a supportive, safe and judgment-free environment for my clients to work through present problems and to address unresolved issues from the past. My goal is to help individuals better understand the causes of their problems and identify patterns, develop better self-awareness and self-acceptance, form healthier relationships and improve the overall quality of their life. Understanding the impact of the past and making peace with it are important components of treatment as one's past can continue to haunt the present time and influence it in ways that are not always evident to us.

My primary method of therapy is Psychodynamic.
It takes determination to set aside time each week to sit and consider the possibilities in life taken or refused. Life in these hectic days can feel rushed, disturbing, and even unexperienced. I see the primary goal of therapy as the conscious taking of time to reflect and think about what has happened or is happening in our busy days. I desire to assist people to help them solve the puzzles of their lives and to lessen pain, achieve peace, or regain excitement. I have over 30 years of working with crisis mental health, individual and couples counseling and navigating difficult community systems with family and individuals.

By combining interpersonal, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and emotion-focused approaches into my work, I explore how early development, attachment, and relational factors interact with the present to influence, maintain, and reinforce challenging thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses.
Far too often, life does not go as we hope or plan. It is at those times that we can truly benefit from supportive others showing us that we are not alone, and the powerful experience of someone validating, while also empowering us to overcome, our challenges. I believe that therapy is a space that can offer this support, and I value the chance to help individuals navigate life's transitions and obstacles. Through my training and work experiences, I have learned to empathize, and work effectively, with college students and individuals across the lifespan, from diverse backgrounds, and with a wide-range of concerns.

I am experienced with DBT, CBT, EMDR, strength-based, holistic, and psychodynamic approaches.
I believe that therapy is most effective when safety and trust are prioritized in the therapeutic relationship. I intentionally foster safety and trust so that I can provide a space where you grow and achieve your desire outcomes by gaining a deep understanding of self, societal, and trauma imposed limitations that hinder you from showing up in life the way you desire. Your session will become opportunity to explore beliefs and patterns, their origins, their impact, and a way forward. My ideal client is someone that is looking to transcend the imposed labels of life and reclaim their power to live and achieve balance.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
