If you feel like you “have it all,” but you can’t shake this nagging feeling that something is missing, feel overwhelmed trying to manage your multiple roles (parent, spouse, partner, friend, co-worker), or are struggling to navigate fertility treatment as a queer person, get pregnant, be pregnant, or transition into parenthood, I can help. I don't practice one-size-fits-all therapy. I’ll follow your lead and use the creative process as a guide in sharing your experiences. I work with adults seeking support for perinatal mental health, trauma, and overall wellbeing with LGBTQIA+ affirming art therapy and counseling.

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that utilizes the creative process to give people a voice without relying completely on verbal communication, and often the process alone can be therapeutic.
While expressing yourself and sharing vulnerable moments can be challenging, sometimes finding new methods of expression can help. My name is Sarah Tovcimak (She/Her), and I am a graduate art therapy student and intern at Cloud Break Therapy. While I may be newer to the field, I nonetheless aim to create a safe and understanding environment where together we can explore the art of creative expression and art therapy. I recognize that art therapy is new to many, and I would love to share some more about it.

For children, I have a well-equipped office with toys, art supplies, and a sandtray.
Sometimes even the strongest people need help to work through life’s more challenging problems. I offer psychotherapy to children, teens, adults, couples, and families, using a variety of modalities such as psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, play therapy, and family systems approaches. Working collaboratively, I tailor therapy to successfully address the client’s individual needs and goals. I also offer consultation with interested colleagues on issues involved in diagnosis and therapy, working with allied professionals, and encounters with the legal system.

Therapy with me includes different forms of realistic problem solving skills, somatic experiencing (body-based) sessions, and even some art.
Maybe you want someone to support you through tough life events or maybe a difficult decision. Maybe you just want a place to process all the things. Whatever it is, my goal is to partner with people from all stages in life: People who are ready to make changes in their career and relationships. Burnt out caregivers second guessing themselves and feeling hopeless. Marginalized groups who have experienced grief, pain, and disenfranchised loss. Or simply those looking to return to therapy after some time away.

I am passionate about applying science, spontaneity, and art techniques in my work.
Did you struggle to build essential life skills due to growing up without much support or adequate psychological nurturance? Or you were born in a healthy and loving family, but life did not turn as planned? Feeling stuck in life, having lost its purpose, feeling lonely and unable to build or maintain healthy relationships, going through a loss (of a loved one, an opportunity, a job, an ability, or even a dream), all of these can take your energy and prevent you from living your best life. Turning a crisis into an opportunity can be a painful process.

Waitlist for new clients
I am currently full but can add anyone to my waitlist per request. Through a caring and collaborative relationship, I aim to hold a safe space in which you can develop new coping skills and perspectives, safely process trauma at your own pace, and improve overall well-being. As a licensed professional counselor and art therapist, I specialize in working with adults and teens experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship conflicts, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. I have a deep capacity to support clients who have been told that their story is "too much" for others to hold, as well as those who feel they are "not enough."

I offer clients a safe and non judgmental space to explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Sessions can be used to explore experiences in relationships, feelings of stress, desired changes, or symptoms associated with mental health. Clients who are interested in additional self-exploration can benefit from my talk-therapy approaches, as well as exploring emotions through the art making process. Art therapy is a creative option for clients who may feel stuck and can’t find the words to describe how they are feeling or for clients who desire visual and hands-on modes of processing.

I specialize in Internal Family Systems, Art Therapy, and Mindfulness to approach your concerns from an imaginative, creative, and holistic perspective.
Hello, welcome to therapy. If you are seeking therapy, you may be struggling with some heavy and complicated feelings and need someone to talk to without fear of being judged. My approach is gentle, yet full of energy, enthusiasm, and determination. In other words, I will take a "spirited" approach to helping you, at your own pace, take an active role in your own healing. My goal for you is to not be in therapy for years and years, but to learn the techniques you can use on your own to deepen self awareness and live life through the eyes of your Authentic Self.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
