We are taking new clients at our office. We believe that therapy is a journey to build a better you. If you enter my therapy office, you are here to grow. While therapy is a process, it does not have to be a long, drawn out, difficult and treacherous.

Our hearts long for authentic connection to ourselves and others - and the sense of aliveness that results from being truly ourselves as we relate. Sometimes, however, reactive patterns arise and displace our competent adult functioning with unregulated emotional states such as anxiety, anger, insecurity, or depression. Often there is no context or overt memory associated with such experiences, which are thought to have their roots in insufficient neural organization. Our neural organization, as it turns out, can adapt and change, giving us access to more and more emotional freedom and contentment.

Kirsten specializes in treating PTSD, anxiety, depression, ADHD and anger problems. She has extensive experience working with trauma, domestic violence and sexual assault. She utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Client Centered and Art Therapy. Kirsten uses a creative, strengths-based approach to help individuals lessen psychological pain and deepen their enjoyment of life.

My approach to therapy is empathic, collaborative, and unique to each individual's own needs. I believe the most important component of effective counseling is a genuine relational connection. I strive to create a therapeutic environment in which clients feel comfortable, respected, supported, and understood so that they may actively explore personal issues and experiment with new ways of thinking and behaving. Too often we spend our lives living either in the past or in the future, and consequently struggling with feelings of depression or anxiety.

I offer a warm, safe, collaborative space to assist you on needs and goals, improve relationships, heal abuse and trauma, and go from surviving to thriving. Even though healing is hard it can also be an exciting, playful, and soul expanding journey! I am trauma trained and informed (ART, EMDR, Flash method, IFS) and approach therapy from an integrative and experiential standpoint. “If we climb high enough, we will reach a height from which tragedy ceases to look tragic.” (Yalom).

I believe that each person has the innate ability to overcome life's challenging obstacles. I'm committed to supporting each client and often times their family members through their journey. I have extensive experience working with complex/developmental trauma, PTSD/TBI, attachment disorders, dissociative identity disorders, personality disorders, suicide ideation/intervention/attempt, LGBTQ issues, Veteran specific services and place an emphasis on using the most advanced evidenced based modalities in my practice with clients.

I provide individual, couple and family therapy as well as substance abuse and mental health evaluations. There are many different methods I may use to work with the particular problems that you are addressing. The length of time you spend with me varies depending on the particular problems that you are experiencing.

Let me guess, you've been in therapy for years and nothing has helped much? You are not alone. Mental health treatment has failed clients who suffer from complex developmental trauma. This is the trauma that happened as a child and there was no escaping the day to day nightmare of not being kept safe. These clients do not benefit from traditional cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches and talk therapy. They likely have high levels of dissociation and a chronic sense of disconnection from themself and others. They have had to turn on themselves in order to survive the unimaginable. It is time to return home to yourself.
