I entered the field of counseling because of a desire to help those in crisis or who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. I realized I wanted to be a counselor while working at a local community college. I saw students who were struggling academically but were very bright. I came to understand that there are many factors that go into being successful at life. I have always had a helping nature but didn’t fully understand why people behaved they way they did. Through my education and experience I can now help people in their personal lives, relationships and careers.

Counseling, psychology, mental health, and hypnosis have ignited my passion to work with individuals and families long ago. I enjoy working with individuals who have temporary lost their way, lost joy in life, and might be struggling with anxiety, chronic illness, pain or upcoming surgeries, depression, panic attacks, insomnia, or mental blocks. One of my specialties includes working with musicians, artists, writers, and other professions in the entertainment industry. Additionally, I enjoy exploring multicultural issues with immigrants, trauma work with any individuals, and guiding individuals through life transitions.

I completed the following degrees, licenses, & certifications to provide comprehensive care for clients: Registered Nurse, Functional Medicine Practitioner, Board-Certified Faith-Based Therapist, Psychology Graduate, Licensed Minister, & Certified Life/Wellness Coach. I am fundamentally motivated to lead others to overcome challenges & odds as I serve them by offering advice, education, treatment & emotional support helping to make an impact that produces positive substantial changes in their lives. In addition, I utilize labs and licensed pharmaceutical-grade nutraceuticals to help my clients achieve better health.

RJ García is a Central Texan with over thirty-five years of serving the recovery community. RJ earned a Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling from the world-renowned Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies at the Center City, Minnesota alcohol and drug addiction treatment center. HGSAS offered a unique curriculum that integrates theory, science and clinical practice. RJ is a member of the American Counseling Association. RJ is bilingual in both English and Spanish. RJ has a special blend of experience in recovery in educational services, health expertise in interventions, therapy, and heroic habits coaching.

My clinical approaches include Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Therapy. I also provide Spiritual Direction/Spiritual Formation. I have over 12 years of experience working in the mental health, behavioral health, and substance abuse field. I have a Doctorate in Professional Counseling, with a specialization in trauma, grief, and loss. I also hold a Master of Arts degree in counseling, and a Master of Arts degree with a Theology concentration.

My passion for over 30 years has been to help people explore, identify and deal with problematic or out of control behaviors and the effects in their lives and in the lives of loved ones. I have always believed that these excessive behaviors have served as one way for people to regulate their moods, their neurochemistry, and to cope with anxiety and fears. In other words, to change the way they feel. I enjoy helping people learn to manage stress and anxiety in new ways. I also love helping people improve their relationship with themselves and others and to develop a deeper sense of meaning and purpose.

I decided to pursue a professional career in the sciences requiring the ability to treat and explore human beings. After careful consideration, I discovered Counseling/ Psychology to be a perfect avenue. Completing my education, and mastering the professional licensure examinations has lead to a fulfilling occupational advancement. In 2017, I began the private practice journey. The private practice challenge scoped a vast amount of populations scarcely covered in textbooks and lectures.

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Central Texas. After graduate school, I worked in the sexual assault and domestic violence fields for six years. Nine years prior, I worked as a domestic violence advocate, case manager, and chemical dependency counselor. I've specialized in treating sexual offenders as I was an LSOTP, I believe that therapy is a very personal experience and process.

Nancy believes that showing up as you are is the first step to healing and recovery. She is passionate about accompanying others on the journey inward. Life comes with so many things that are uncontrollable. It is essential to recognize and own what you can control and view life from a renewed perspective. Nancy is an active listener, and she utilizes evidence-based therapeutic practices such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Activation, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness and Solution-focused Therapy.

I am experienced at helping to transform depression, anxiety, relationship problems, addictions, and other struggles through a variety of active techniques: Psychodynamic therapy with a Jungian orientation, expressive arts therapy, imago therapy for couples, action methods for groups, and mindfulness processes. With leaders and organizations, I use a dynamic set of processes that help to transform conflict and develop emotional intelligence and authenticity. I also am a licensed LPC supervisor and train facilitators to use these techniques with their clients.

As a therapist working for over twenty-five years with Family Counseling Service, Charlie's Place Recovery Center, multiple Employee Assistance Programs, and in private practice, I have assisted many employees of the City of Corpus Christi, CCISD, the RTA, Christus Spohn Health Care Systems, and many national EAP Programs. I worked for over 15 years in the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center, am a Designated Mental Health Provider for multiple State Licensing Boards, and as a Critical Incident Stress De-Briefer.
