Hello, my name is Monica Urena and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been helping different populations for over 9 years in the field. I work with individuals, couples, and families in several areas including anxiety, coping skills, depression, family conflict, relationship issues, self esteem, stress, and trauma & PTSD, amongst others. My approach is person-centered, culturally sensitive, and solution focused. I utilize various modalities including CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Complicated Grief Therapy, and more.

Loss, failure, and separation are major root causes of many forms of suffering in life. But they are not always evident, we may be too young when live through them, or we may not feel their impact until long after an event. Sometimes they even travel through generations. As a psychotherapist, I have spent over 25 years helping people who suffered from a variety of emotional and relational problems created by one or a combination of these issues, ranging from basic unhappiness to unhealthy relationships, workplace conflicts, divorce and separations, parents struggling with their children, migration and forced separation, even trauma.

After completing my Bachelor's of Psychology at the University if Monterrey, Mexico, I began specialized training at the Child Analytic Study Program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where I also completed a Master's in Education and Psychology. I moved to Houston and while raising my four children I founded Mexican Women's Initiative, a non-profit organization focusing on organizing Latin women to provide services for the Latin community. I then joined two other Latin psychotherapists to create the "Centro para el Desarrollo para la Mujer", an educational forum for Latin women.

I am passionate about providing a safe place where individuals, couples and families can come and receive help and support. I work collaboratively with my clients to access their inner strengths and achieve their goals. My expertise include working with children and their families facing a variety of struggles including behavioral problems, ADHD, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, and family conflict. I also specialize in working with individuals, couples and families wanting to improve their relationships.

I hold four licenses as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Supervisor, Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, & Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist. Nationally, I hold a designation as a National Credential Counselor (NCC) Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), Somatic Experience Practitioner (SEP)
