I enjoy helping individuals learn more about themselves and finding balance in the different areas of their lives through creative therapy and talk therapy. I specialize in substance use disorders, communication skills, and emotional regulation. I believe in the indivisible connection between the body and the mind, focusing on how our mental health affects our bodies and how our physical health affects our minds. I connect with clients using a person-centered approach, but I value the structure of behavioral techniques and the benefits of motivational interviewing to help promote change.

I work with clients who have experienced trauma, whether it be recent or in childhood, those experiencing grief as a result of loss or from other life experiences, people facing terminal illness and the end of life, and those who are interested in engaging in a psychodynamic process to develop insight and awareness into how their past is expressing itself in the here and now. I enjoy working with clients who are ready to experience life more fully and to feel more at home in their bodies. Trauma and grief have a way of disconnecting us from our bodies, causing us to feel isolated and cut off from our own natural path toward healing.

I Provide individual and family therapy to ages 7-100, encompassing all presenting problems with a special interest in treating those with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, Bi-Polar disorder, and high-risk adolescents and families in crisis. I am skilled in numerous therapy modalities and create individualized treatment plans to meet specific client needs. I provide client-centered therapy, so that the client's goals are met and their personal success is long-term. Your relationship with your therapist is a major factor in the outcome of your therapy. I will do my best to foster a trusting and supportive relationship.

Huston is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S). He uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and other proven methods of counseling. Having a Christ-centered focus is paramount to his counseling. He earned is supervisor status as he enjoyed supervising PLC interns, sharing the twenty plus years of experience with counselors starting their journey into the profession. He is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a well-known treatment for trauma. He is a certified sex addiction therapist (CSAT) and certification as a certified multiple addiction therapist (CMAT).

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families. I believe in addressing a client's immediate concern, their current functioning, and their identified goals. I use a variety of treatment modalities and select those that best serve the needs of my clients. I do not believe in meeting with clients indefinitely. My hope is to help clients reach their goals and get to the point where they no longer need therapy. I believe in teaching my clients the specific skills they need to address their problem or concern.

Past traumatic experiences often leave an imprint on the mind/body in such a way that present-day stressors can easily trigger a recurrent emotional/physical stress response. Each environmental trigger validates an automatic physical stress response because the central nervous system is pre-set/pre-wired to be ON ALERT. Stress can be cumulative and create illness or a disease process over time (i.e., fibromyalgia, CFIDS, autoimmune response, etc.).

I am dually licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC).
