I work with adult and teen-aged clients who want to heal and grow through what they are going through. Many of my clients are looking for a Christian counselor who shares their faith and values; someone who will come alongside them as they work through trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship hurts (and breakups), or help them on their recovery journey. I began my career working with at risk teens who struggled with substance use and had behavioral concerns as well as children and teens in foster care who experienced trauma and other mental health concerns. I work with children and teens with a variety of needs and goals. I have experience working with those who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma histories, self confidence difficulties, ADHD, body image concerns, lack of motivation, family conflict, and other concerns. I find that most children and teens I work with want to thrive and have better relationships and to feel confident in their abilities to be resilient.

I believe strongly in the growth and healing potential of people, no matter how long they have struggled. I enjoy working with children, teens, and adults struggling with a wide range of issues including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, stress, trauma and interpersonal issues. I provide a safe, empathic, and non-judgmental space for my clients where we can do healing and transformative work. We will uncover your strengths together and build upon them. Hi, my name is Cara. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with more than 25 years experience providing individual therapy. I earned a BA degree in psychology and an MS degree in counseling and educational psychology, from Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi, in 1997. I have had a private practice since 2005, while also working in psychiatric hospitals, outpatient facilities and correctional facilities. I am able to see clients, all over the State of Texas, through a HIPAA compliant confidential video link, a very convenient way to get therapy.

Pursuit of Happiness provides counseling for pregnant women, children, and families with Traditional Medicaid Insurance. We offer in-home and telehealth counseling throughout Texas. All of our counselors practice trauma-informed counseling and have training in play and trauma techniques to help children and families heal and grow in a safe therapeutic space. Our counselors will come directly to you and meet with the you or your children in the home, school, or daycare depending on your schedule needs. Virtual counseling is also available.

As the child of a Vietnam Veteran with PTSD, I have experienced the long lasting effects of trauma and understand the impact on our heroes and their family members; including First Responders. Untreated trauma, not just Military related, can lead to depression, anxiety, addictions, unhealthy relationships, suicidal thoughts/behaviors, and so much more. Sometimes it can feel like you are alone in the darkness. I will walk with you in the darkness until you find the light again.
