My clinical training is focused on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
My experience as a special education teacher, campus administrator and counselor for almost three decades has provided me the knowledge and skills to work with your child, adolescent, and even adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, addiction or PTSD. Understanding how these challenges ultimately affect behaviors in the classroom, at home, and in the workplace environments, help fuel my passion to connect, learn, and problem solve with my clients and their families on an interpersonal level in an effort to build HOPE.

I use a variety of treatment modalities including, but not limited to CBT, DBT, ACT, Existential Therapy and Mindfulness.
Therapy can be one of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself. Therapy is a personal journey, and I am honored to be the therapist to help you expand and strengthen your insight and awareness. My goal is to help you understand yourself better, and equip you with skills to actualize your best self. My therapy style is developmental, and supportive, with a strong focus on thinking about our thinking. Together we can explore narratives, with goals of reframing into a healthier, more self-compassionate internal dialogue of self acceptance. My approaches are engaging, workable and direct.

I use CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing and a mindfulness approach to therapy.
With over 15 years of experience in mental/behavioral health, my goal is to help you cultivate the life you desire. After benefiting from therapy in my early 20's I knew this was something that I wanted to do, which is to provide you a safe space to work on "issues" that prevent you from living your best life. I desire to help you if you feel stuck and stagnant, knowing there is more to life than being weighed down with depression, anxiety, fear, shame, and or guilt.

Therapy is one of the hardest things that anyone can do! Take it from someone who has been to therapy throughout their life. It is never easy to be completely vulnerable to someone that you just met. Therapy is about exploring your feelings, thoughts, emotions, frustrations, fear, and uncertainty that you may be experiencing. I strive hard to provide a non-judgemental and safe place for you to come and explore. I work really hard with clients to meet them where they are at, not where everyone thinks they should be. I journey with you, not ahead or behind you.

Our psychological, emotional, and social well being is an important aspect of our overall health. In fact, when our mental health is out of balance it could have a negative impact on our physical health and vice versa. Common factors that affect our mental health include loss of a loved one, medical diagnosis, relational and family issues, difficulty finding life/work balance, job loss or work dissatisfaction, life transitions, and past/current traumatic events. These are part of living and being human. Counseling is one resource that could help you get through these difficult times, to process your feelings and learn coping tools.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
