You took the first step in looking for a therapist. That takes courage and a leap of faith! Finding help and connection can be difficult, especially when we feel stuck and alone. I work with teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I also specialize in helping people who have experienced trauma. I am trained to use EMDR therapy to process traumatic events and memories.

Client-centered and collaborative, my compassionate approach is influenced by neuroscience, mind-body approaches, & trauma research.
You are not broken, you are deeply hurt. It is easy to find yourself in unhelpful patterns & ways of being. This might be due to your nervous system being flooded with anger, fear & despair. In a creative way to survive, you have found self-protection strategies. Unfortunately, these strategies are likely no longer helpful. Part of our work together will be unraveling this muscle memory to reveal how you can live a life that is true to you. YOU become the place of self-awareness, peaceful acceptance & intentional action. As a certified trauma professional & art therapist, I integrate these tools into our therapeutic work.

Compassion and supportive listening is often missing when going through difficult circumstances. People sometimes feel alone and don't know where to turn. I consider it a privilege to offer a safe place for those facing adversity to explore their strengths and areas of needed growth. Understanding that exploring ones thoughts and feelings can bring a sense of vulnerability. I strive to create a safe, judgement free, space where people can develop a deeper understanding of self and create the life they desire. Commitment by the client to the "work," with a motivation for change is crucial for successful therapeutic intervention.

Life is often really tough. My goal is to provide a safe space for my clients to share their story, their struggles, their victories and their goals so they can feel less alone and also have a therapeutic partner to sort through what they'd like to understand better about themselves in order to take new steps towards wellness and growth. Being understood by a compassionate person is strengthening, and so is having a therapeutic partner to help you think about what you're thinking about and what you'd rather be focusing on.

My specialty areas include using EMDR and other evidence-based treatments to work with clients to recover from trauma, grief, and chronic pain/illnesses.
You are ready to find a better way to end your emotional and physical pain. Successful clients of EMDR learn to change old habits of thoughts and behaviors so you can have a life with less suffering and more joy. Let me help you heal and grow with love, compassion and humor! Studies in EMDR psychotherapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. EMDR therapy has been recognized as an effective form of treatment by the World Health Organization and the Veterans Administration. Email me today. I will try to return your emails within 48 business hours.

I have over 15 years of experience working with people who have suffered from various forms of trauma.
Compassion and supportive listening is often missing when going through difficult circumstances. People sometimes feel alone and don't know where to turn. I consider it a privilege to offer a safe place for individuals facing adversity to explore their strengths and areas of needed growth. Understanding that communicating past hurtful events, thoughts and feelings can leave one feeling vulnerable. I strive to create a safe judgement free environment where people can develop a deeper understanding of self and help them gain the tools they need to create the life they desire. Motivated clients who are willing to work will succeed.

Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You may be fed up with feeling triggered in everyday situations, isolated from people who don't understand, or guilty over what happened to you. You may not even remember a time you didn’t feel like this. Either way, one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to enjoy deep relationships without the past getting in the way. You’re ready to wake up each morning with purpose. Most of all, you’re ready to move forward with a sense of empowerment and get back to feeling like yourself again.

I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, and sexual assault/abuse as well as relationship and family conflicts.
Taking the first step towards therapy is often the most difficult. I strive to create a safe and comfortable atmosphere in which to build a caring and collaborative therapeutic relationship where the client and the therapist work as a team. In working with my clients, I practice a strength-based approach where helping my clients with wellness, self-growth, and exploration is vital and foremost. I am particularly interested in trying to help clients feel more like the authors of their own lives, so that they can achieve what they hope for in all areas of their life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
