I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an amazingly effective technique for anxiety,
trauma and PTSD
.
I began as a life coach and became a therapist in 2017 because I wanted to help people in a deeper way. I adjust to your pace: maybe you are coming in with a concern about something that happened recently and you just want another person's insight on it; or maybe you have past
trauma
that you'd like to finally unhook from. With deeper work, I like to get an idea of your whole picture -- emotionally, psychologically and spiritually -- so I can help you reach whatever goal or resolve whatever issue you come in with.

I utilize a systems approach to therapy, using my training in Structural Family Therapy, Relational therapy, Internal Family Systems,
trauma
model, and other modalities.
You are unique in all the world! There is no one just like you with your story or life. Your family, pets, friends, community--where you came from--what you have overcome and endured-all these make you the unique person you are. At some time you may wish to turn the page on your story. My therapy involves walking with you while you decide where you want to go from here--who the person is that you want to be--how you want your life and story to change. I will listen and challenge, support and invite you to learn new skills and growth.

When working with children, I strive to create a calm and inviting environment where children and adolescents feel safe enough to discuss
trauma
or any other concerns impacting their daily life. I believe therapy is a very personal experience that requires a non-judgmental, genuine, and compassionate relationship between client and therapist. I understand that building a truly effective, collaborative relationship must include transparency and openness. In therapy, I understand the connection between physiology, environment, and mental health.

My approach is
trauma
-informed, strength-based, culturally sensitive, and person centered.
Being content, comfortable, and at peace with oneself is something many, if not all, wish to feel and experience. As a therapist that has walked alongside the journeys of individuals from diverse walks of life, I seek to empower individuals to be curious about oneself in order to live a life that brings you closer to understanding your past and fears of the future in order to live a present self-life. For many years I have worked with diverse populations, spanning many different cultures and ethnicities. With Spanish being my native language, I have had the privilege of working with many individuals from Spanish speaking countries.

I use treatment strategies that are proven to help an individual heal from and manage
trauma
, anxiety, ADHD, depression, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and other mental health challenges.
Who are we kidding? Life is crazy and we all need someone in our corner! You are a unique person, and your challenges are too. I'm here to help you make sense of the craziness. I grew up frequently moving between my parents and family, and untimely ended up in the foster care system. With substance abuse in my family system, being a child and adult child of a dysfunctional family is something with which I am very familiar. I decided to pursue my education and help others instead of perpetuating the toxic family system.

I believe in the wisdom within each of us and work to instill in each person a deep sense of self-respect and compassion. My work includes cognitive, psycho-spiritual, and expressive approaches. I use emotional release techniques for deep change in thinking and feeling patterns that interfere with current well-being and functioning. For addiction issues, I provide ear acupuncture and help people assess the extent of the problem and stop the harm. We then work through the recovery stages. For
PTSD
from childhood
trauma
or from military service I use several approaches, including Prolonged Exposure Therapy.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
