In my approach to therapy I pull from cutting-edge neuroscience, using therapeutic modalities that are clinically proven to be effective.
Do you struggle with trauma, relationships, and anxiety, or worry that you might be beyond help? Give me a call--I've been there and, through my own healing, as well as extensive training and experience, I'm uniquely fit to help others. I specialize in healing complex trauma, compulsive disorders, and borderline personality disorder, using EMDR, DBT, and Brainspotting to achieve tangible results quickly. My clients often tell me that no other therapist has helped them in the way that I have, and that they finally have the tools they need to let go of trauma and thrive.

Your throat feels restricted, your chest is heavy, and it hurts to breathe. Trauma has found a home in your body and it is time to evict it. Maybe you drank or used again. Maybe you stopped taking your medication, telling yourself it will be different this time. Maybe you are just tired of being tired. Either way, you are ready to dive in and "do the work."

The sun goes down and you're desperate for sleep. Unfortunately, this is when your thoughts speed up. You're constantly thinking. You think about how much you think. Your mind replays the day's interactions with others, blaming yourself, and reflecting on how others have hurt you. Feeling like you always mess things up. Waiting for the other shoe to always drop. All you crave is a calm mind. A peaceful spirit. And a good night's rest.

My sessions often look a little different from traditional approaches, and tend to be more direct and synergistic. I help my clients identify patterns and connections that might have been previously overlooked, which helps us uncover deeper insights. I’m naturally curious about your experiences and will ask questions to help us both understand what motivates your behaviors and emotions.

Hi I'm Kylie, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I'm excited you're browsing Therapists to hopefully begin your therapeutic journey. We're happy to have you! Human connection has always been at the root of my career and helping others has always been a deep-seated motivation. I’ve always been an immensely compassionate person, and I hold a deep curiosity about people, their relationships, and the full scope of our human experience. I recognize that the career of a Therapist is a privilege; to sit with you at your most vulnerable time, and then witness your growth. This is not something I take for granted.

I believe you have the power and ability to change what you don't want; the question is, "are you willing?" your life is a result of choices and circumstances. Make a different choice, and you'll get a different result. You have the right to say "no" to what you don't want, and you have the right to say "yes" to what you do want. It's okay to tell yourself you're enough as is, it's okay to tell yourself that you are worthy of someone else's time, it's okay to tell yourself that you deserve happiness. And it's okay to be unapologetically yourself.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
