We all experience really tough and painful things at times. Then, sometimes, we don't know why things feel so difficult but all of the sudden, even the little things feel like too much to bear. We may know that something in our lives needs to change but we either don’t know what it is or we just don’t know where to start to make it happen. The therapeutic environment is designed to be an unbiased and safe space where you can be authentically you and receive the support you need in order to facilitate healing and change.

We all, sooner or later, come up against changes, challenges, or outright catastrophes that require us to grow in order to cope. Many of us find that the coping skills we've picked up in our lives thus far are just not enough to enable us to move forward successfully. Often, responses that used to work may have become the very things that are now causing problems. Fortunately, old strategies that no longer work can be released, and new skills and perspectives can be learned that open up possibilities that were never available in the past. That's what therapy is for, and It is my great pleasure to be a part of this process.

My stance, as with everything in life, is to be present and authentic. I think it can be very easy to listen; however, it is another thing to truly hear what someone is saying. I would like to think that I am a therapist that hones in on what is actually being said – I hear you! I feel that my experiences, personally and professionally, have shaped in me an openness to others. I have developed a deep awareness not only of myself but more importantly to my clients. Hello, my name is Beth Ringel and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker-Clinical Practice or LISW-CP in South Carolina. I have a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Master Degree in Social Work or MSW from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. I have over 30 years of experience successfully providing counseling to a wide variety of ages with many different issues, needs, and goals. I am proficient in the use of several therapeutic techniques but tailor it to the situation. I am an unbiased listener partnering with you to accomplish your goals and to solve the problems you bring into our therapeutic alliance.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Addiction Counselor, and Nationally Certified Master Addictions Counselor with extensive experience working with adolescents and their families. I enjoy helping adolescents and adults adjust to life transitions, strengthen and restore relationships, and manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and other various issues. I have worked with both adolescents and adults struggling with substance use; and those that have been involved with the legal system who may not have necessarily sought treatment on their own.

My first mentor in the field of counseling told me, “You can't take anyone to where you've never been.” This sage advice has stayed with me for the 30-plus years that I have had the privilege of operating in this profession. These words have encouraged me to continue my own journey of self-exploration and healing and then, in turn, helped me to be more equipped to offer and support in the healing relationships that I have been privileged to play a role in over the years. My ideal client is one seeking to find their own personal identity. I use a combination of theoretical approaches to accommodate the specific needs for each client. I always start with a client centered approach to build a trusting relationship. Once that is established I move into a psychoanalytic approach (counselor and client work to understand the inner life of the client through deep exploration of unconscious and past experiences). Once connections from the past and present are acknowledged, and understood, I end therapy using a reality based approach (focusing on the things in life we can control).

At Little Dove, we focus upon two main factors when providing care: 1) utilizing the most evidence-based assessments and protocols specific to each patient's concerns and 2) tailoring treatment goals collaboratively in order to align this with each family's unique values, beliefs, and culture. We use this approach to provide effective and empathic care for for children, adolescents, and adults struggling with mental health and/or quality of life concerns.
