My name is Brittain and I love helping people accomplish goals and live more authentically. Feeling alone in our struggles can be hard, so my goal is to help you feel heard and valued as we work together to identify and overcome the obstacles you are facing and move toward a more fulfilled life. I believe each person and their struggles are unique, so I approach the counseling process to meet you right where you are, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. While I believe true healing is found through a relationship with Jesus Christ, I respect that not everyone shares this belief and will integrate it only upon request.

Each person is worthy of being seen, heard, and valued. When the challenges and stressors of life become too much to handle, it can lead to feeling like the rug is being pulled out from under you. I take a person-centered approach, allowing each person to be the expert of their own lives, and work to walk alongside each client to help them find their desired outcomes. I work with individuals, couples, and family members through a number of varying issues and problems to gain emotional resilience in order to respond mindfully to life’s challenges while fostering personal and relational healing.

Life is hard-I imagine that is the last thing that you want to hear right now. But unless you assume a different perspective, you may miss some important things-like hope, grace, and compassion. In my 30 plus years as a licensed professional counselor, I have had the honor of walking with individuals and couples through life crises and transitions, seeing them with fresh eyes, an understanding heart, and strategic interventions (or behavioral “experiments”) as they discover a new life of purpose and meaning, with renewed personal energy and deepened relationships.

Despite mental health becoming less stigmatizing over recent years, the fact remains that most are still uncomfortable discussing this area of their life. Yet, at some point, we all experience adverse emotional responses. The reasons for this may differ- a trauma, a health crisis, a painful childhood, or even a difficult transition. Life events such as these, coupled with our genetic predisposition and environment, often leave us feeling alone, confused, and stuck. My mission is to help people find their strength to get on their feet, find their path, and even thrive in a new way moving forward.

All of us deserve to savor what life has to offer to the fullest extent possible. Many experience that journey as compromised by difficult transitions or painful circumstances in their lives, threatening to rob them of their joy. These blockages may come from events in the present such as loss of a loved one or a deteriorating relationship; or they may result from earlier events that have left wounds/scars unhealed. We provide individual, group, and family sessions to help create awareness and understanding of how to get back to 'Me'. We explore issues and allow clients to choose to heal mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.

We are in challenging times, and we are all experiencing some level of discomfort in adjusting to life circumstances. However, we are also individuals, and our brains express emotions differently from one person to the next. My clinical focus is to work with balancing your mind, using the qEEG and neurofeedback, a noninvasive therapeutic intervention, as I help you create an individual treatment plan to promote healthy thinking, which will decrease your unwanted feelings. Our brains want to be balanced! This therapy creates a relaxed state of mind, almost like creating a good memory, which aids in the brain's ability to heal.

Hi there! In the midst of life's demands, it's easy to feel emotionally and mentally drained. Balancing roles as parents, partners, colleagues, and caretakers often leads us to overlook our own well-being. It can feel like an endless cycle of battling anxiety, depression, and self-doubt, leaving us feeling stuck in a hamster wheel of stress. While we prioritize relationships with others, it's equally crucial to nurture our relationship with ourselves. If you're grappling with self-criticism or navigating life's transitions while seeking identity, remember: self-care isn't a luxury; it's vital for our well-being.

After working with adolescents in various settings in my early career, I recognized the need to utilize the family and other support systems to affect more powerful and lasting change. I worked in several school settings where I developed systemic interventions that included family therapy, community outreach and service. I linked with the programs and universities training masters and PhD level clinicians in MFT. Upon retirement from the schools, I have continued seeing clients in private practice, where I now work with a diverse group of dedicated, energetic clinicians with shared commitment to positive outcomes.

I am a LPC in South Carolina. I enjoy working with clients as they confront avoidance and start living the lives they desire. The best evidence we have shows the importance of a good therapeutic relationship in overall therapy outcomes. I love connecting with my clients and building a great relationship with them. To be sure, life has many challenges and many of us respond to those challenges in ways that are not consistent with our values. Many times, these responses cause life to not be as enjoyable as we would like. Wherever our challenges come from, these challenges do not need to prevent us from living the life we desire.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
