Have you ever felt that even with therapy, medication, or the combination of both that there are these underlying patterns that you just can’t seem to shake? Perhaps you have tried on your own, found short-term success, but eventually fell back into your old patterns? Have you ever felt down about yourself as a result and found yourself asking “will I ever change?” While I believe you are enough as you are and do not need to change who you are at the core, there are often thoughts, feelings, and behaviors we fall into that are possible to recognize and change when you are determined and ready to make the first step!

Whether you are practicing monogamy or polyamory I am eager to work with couples to establish boundaries, improve communication, and address attachment-based wounds.
Do you want to improve your mental health or increase joy in your life? Are you curious about exploring your inner world? Do you wish that you and your partner could communicate better? Therapy is a safe place to explore these topics and more. As a therapist, it is my top priority to create a supportive environment where you can be your full self without fear of shame or judgment. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process where my role as the therapist is to be a guide on your journey towards healing or coping with a life transition, mental health struggle, or any other challenge that life may throw your way.

Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately I am unable to take on any new clients at this time. Please feel free to check back as I open up my practice every few months. I am a seasoned therapist with more than twenty years of success helping people from late adolescence to adulthood experience healing and lasting change. I utilize a positive, motivational counseling approach that helps people identify goals for themselves, notice where they are stuck, and move towards making meaningful shifts in their lives. As one client recently put it, I am appreciated for how I help people "think outside the box."

Hi! I am so glad you are here; this is the first step to becoming a healthier version of you! I believe that everyone deserves the chance to grow for themselves and I am here to foster and encourage that growth that is in everyone. For the past decade I have worked within community organizations. I have experience with prenatal, neonatal, postnatal, children, adolescents, families, and individuals. Working with all these populations and being a human, friend, daughter, new mom, and more myself; I learned there are a lot of different stressors in this world, and you shouldn’t have to navigate them on your own!

I truly believe it is such a great privilege and honor to have the opportunity to meet and support so many people, wherever they have found themselves on the journey through this life. Each experience is unique and rewarding. I have worked in the human service/mental health field for over 15 years, and have a great deal of experience working with children and families, as well as adults. I've also specialized in working with children and adults who have been diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities, and experience with helping people cope through depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and other life challenges.

My specialty is "COUPLES." The work I do with couples is not covered by insurance(s). I specialize in using Imago relationship therapy, attachment theory, somatic therapy & neuroscience. The issues that concern couples are usually styles of communication, infidelity, conflict, racial distress, commitment & navigating differences. I work with couples on a "short-term" private intensive basis beginning with a 2-hr assessment that gives you hope and insight into areas of strength and growth. My philosophy is grounded in the idea that relationship are an adventure to be had; not a problem to be solved.

Hi! My name is Ana Torrado. I am a bilingual licensed mental health clinician. I was born and raised in Colombia and moved to the U.S. when I was nine. I am a wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. Like you, I live in this multifaceted world filled with many challenges and uncertainty. After years of counseling, using theories and methods of the current psychology field, as the framework for therapy interventions, I have come to learn that true healing is incomplete without Jesus at the center.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
