My experience includes working with cis, gender-expansive, and queer clients across diverse relational orientations on issues including communication, grief, and sexual expression.
In a world that can feel increasingly polarized, our conversations make a difference in how we go on together. Every interaction shapes the possibility for bringing us closer together or pushing us further apart. As we feel more understood, respected, and capable, we can turn towards one another with more compassion and capacity for connection. Whether you're seeking therapy for relationships or life transitions, I'm here to support your growth at your own pace.

Drawing on psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and relational approaches, I will help you navigate life’s challenges, including: anxiety, depression, addiction, illness, relationship/intimacy concerns, and grief.

Do you feel misunderstood by a partner and unable to break the cycle of arguments that feel all too familiar? You don’t need to stay stuck. I work with individuals, couples, and families across the adult lifespan, from college students to confident professionals, from new parents to empty-nesters. Together, we will explore how you want to live, love, and work.

I use a relational lens, and therefore each session looks different based upon the client’s needs and experience. I work with clients to create safer spaces that feel real and honor the many experiences an individual may be navigating. To me, the most important thing is to care and love one another. My work is rooted in care and love for humanity and the goal of betterment of our society as a whole, starting with the way we treat ourselves.

I integrate a relational and systemic perspective with the client's individual inter-subjective experience in order to develop a collaborative and personally meaningful treatment process.
In my practice I work with individuals and couples. I believe that therapy can be a useful tool in learning to understand ourselves better, and in building more rewarding and healthy relationships with others. It is a unique opportunity to focus on what is important to us, and what may be preventing us from living to our full potential. In my practice I like to address emotional, cognitive and relational aspects of individual experience. My approach focuses on both, accomplishment of more pressing short term goals, as well as long term goals and personal growth.

My approach to working together is both collaborative & relational.
I became a psychotherapist because my own therapy and therapist was so incredibly impactful. It is the greatest honor and privilege to bear witness to my clients' lives. I have an egalitarian approach; we partner together to give you the support needed to make whatever changes you are seeking in your life.

My approach is informed by relational, narrative, attachment, feminist, and psychodynamic theories.
I view psychotherapy as a collaborative experience between therapist and patient. I see my role as that of a space holder and guide. I will shed light on and explore what may be causing difficulty in your life, provide affirmation, and offer tools that will help sustain your therapeutic goals. I believe that transformation and change can evolve through collaboration and the development of a renewed narrative that is validating and hopeful.

I utilize a relational, person-centered, strengths-based approach, in addition to incorporating mindfulness-based therapeutic techniques.
Taking this first step of searching through profiles on Psychology Today demonstrates a certain level of commitment to improve the quality of your mental health. And it can also be quite overwhelming sifting through all the options (hello decision fatigue). Collectively we're all dealing with so much right now as human beings on this planet, and it is critically important for us to attend to our mental health needs. Whether navigating stressors of day-to-day life, or experiencing a more acute crisis, therapy can be an excellent source of support, healing and empowerment.

I utilize an integrative model, drawing from relational, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, EMDR, and attachment based approaches.
Many find themselves at a point in their lives where external support is necessary to navigate life's challenges. My clients seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Some may come to therapy to deal with a specific struggle, such as anxiety or depression, while others initiate therapy during a difficult life transition. Even positive transitions, such as getting a new job or starting a new relationship can be stressful. Together, we will merge our resources to address these challenges in a safe environment by exploring patterns, processing events from the past, and creating plans for change in the future.

I formulate your story from a psychodynamic orientation with the belief that the past influences the present and operate from a relational lens (relationships influence well-being), though I have experience using cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques.
Are you attempting to manage feelings that have been building up over time? You may be living with anxiety and depression, generally feeling stuck, and/or are trying to manage the personalities of people around you. Perhaps you aren’t quite sure how to talk about what’s happening; but something doesn’t feel right—things just feel off. During times like this, talking to a professional can help. I work with young adults, parents, college and graduate students including international students. I have niche specialized experience working with medical professionals such as physicians, nurses and medical trainees.

My integrative approach to therapy is trauma-informed, client-centered, relational, resource-oriented, and informed by psychodynamic and attachment theories.
I am a psychotherapist and music therapist. I enjoy working with kids, teens, and adults of all ages. I approach therapy from an anti-oppressive and systems perspective, meaning that my primary lens seeks to understand systemic barriers and discriminatory cultural contexts that impact the well-being of those I work with. I am well positioned to work with folks who are LGBTQIA+ and/or inhabit non-traditional family/relationship structures. I have many years of experience working with folks who are grieving, chronically/terminally ill, autistic, depressed, anxious, and folks who have experienced trauma.

I am continually honored to bear witness to healing as I support individuals and groups as they strengthen the relationship to themselves, others, and communities. I believe that healing occurs in therapy when there is a safe and trusting connection between the therapist and client. I strive to support the person sitting with me through listening with empathy and no judgments. My therapeutic style is integrative; I work with each person to find an approach that meets their needs. In doing so I draw on a variety of approaches including relational, client-centered, supportive counseling, mindfulness-based, and cognitive behavioral.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
