I work with those struggling with anxiety, depression, lack of esteem/self worth, career & relational challenges, or life transitions.
You are ready for something to change. Maybe you are caught in a cycle of self-defeating patterns. Maybe you are stuck engaging in behaviors or thought processes that have worked for you in the past but are no longer helping you in the same way. Maybe you know the exact cause of your pain, maybe you don’t. I am here to help you explore the cause of your distress and create space for release, healing and growth so you can start living a more fulfilling life. With curiosity, compassion, honesty, and a bit of humor, together, we can create the positive changes you are seeking.

I work with ages 16 and up. I have experience treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex trauma, sexual trauma, gender dysphoria, and life transitions. I have additional training in complex trauma, sexual trauma, and EMDR. My general goal for clients is creating a safe space where clients can develop coping skills, heal relational trauma, and heal. I work in the LGBTQIA+ community quite a bit, and have experience with issues specific to that community. I engage clients in music therapy if it's appropriate to their treatment, and interests.

Everyone has a story and a past. Our brains develop coping skills to shield us from triggers within those stories. I hope to help you find not only what those triggers are within your past, but what the glimmers are so you can be hopeful for your future with the skills that help you cope in a healthier way.

Anxiety and depression can make it virtually impossible to experience joy and contentment. We might imagine a catastrophic future or constantly relive a difficult past. Problems don't get solved and we feel stuck. Therapy can help us think about our lives more clearly and align our actions with our values and goals.

As a dually licensed & seasoned therapist, I will partner with you to help you find solutions using evidence based approaches. Do you worry, neglect your own needs or struggle to “let go?” Any concerns about your relationship with alcohol, drugs or food? Are you “sober” yet restless or irritable? Or a caretaker who lost sight of who you are? It can be challenging to navigate our inner landscape by ourselves. Our work together will be genuine & focused on your individual needs. While some therapies can focus on pathology & take years of exploration, our primary focus is on how your life circumstances affect you here & now.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
