I firmly believe that life is easier lived when lived in relationship. Are you looking to make a shift? I am licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. I believe therapy can be seen as a process of unpacking. Things often go unsaid, which can manifest into various effects on the body, such as anxiety. Although staying with your emotions can be difficult, it can often be the pathway to healing. My clinical experience has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of our environment and relationships, as well as the positive shifts that can take place when offered supportive and validating resources.

Mental health is a journey. As a therapist, my focus is person centered treatment. Meaning, no two people have the same exact path. Hi, and welcome! My name is Michelle Bivas, MSW, LSW and I'm so happy to have you here! I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work, both from Rutgers University. My educational areas of concentration include women's and gender studies, sexuality studies, trauma, mental health, and behavioral health. I have direct experience helping clients with a wide range of issues including trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship and work issues, self-esteem, identity work, and much more. I work with clients in a dynamic manner that allows for life's little moments to hold as much importance as the big ones.

I've worked in the mental health field for over 25 years and provide psychotherapy and consultation services to those in NY and NJ. Having worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and community counseling clinics, I specialize in treating emotion dysregulation, addictions, mood and anxiety disorders, and in helping clients develop coping and resilience. I've served as president for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s NJ Chapter and am currently a Staff Psychologist at Montclair State University's Counseling and Psychological Services.

Life can be stressful. Some of us have healthy adaptive ways of coping with stress and life events while others do not. At different times in our lives we can feel stuck and struggle with finding our way.
