I often draw from mindfulness, solution-focused, strength-based, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral theories.
Hello, and welcome! I applaud you for taking the first step to seek support to help you navigate whatever is going on in your life that has landed you here. I fully believe that a supportive counseling relationship is a powerful tool to encourage change and help bring out the skills we have inside ourselves to overcome obstacles and realize our full potential. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, so I strive to find the right tools and resources to create our path forward. Through collaboration, we will set priorities and goals for our work together.

Monday Tuesday daytime appointments available. My approach is strengths based, helping people keep sight of their inherent strengths while working through challenges. I believe the relationship between counselor and patient is the most important consideration for growth, and that we have an innate drive toward wellness. Therapy is often about removing barriers so that innate drive can flourish. I have over eight years of experience treating anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, life changes and more. I enjoy incorporating drumming, music, and humor in therapy. I work with adults age 21 and up. More about me at restoringrhythmvt.com.

I became a therapist because I believe that all people have the innate ability to heal and sometimes, we need extra support and guidance to get us there. We all experience challenges in our lives whether it be grief, job stress, relationship issues, difficulties at home, and sometimes we don’t know why but, we don’t feel like ourselves. In my 15 years of working in community mental health, I have helped children, adolescents and adults heal from these challenges.

Loss and trauma come in all shapes and sizes. The death of a loved one, the loss of relationships, traumatic events, and various life changes (even ones that seem to be typical) can lead to feelings of intense sadness, confusion, anger, and anxiety. They can impact our day-to-day functioning, our relationships with others, our jobs, our sleep, and our overall wellbeing. Too often, problems we could manage or avoid in the past become barriers to living quality lives, and we're left feeling hopeless and alone.

In private practice since 2006, I continue to feel honored to get to know my clients. My hope with each person is that we will create a space together in which a unique healing relationship may unfold. To facilitate that space, I tend to focus on your feelings and how they are held in the body; on past experiences and how they relate to current feelings and relational patterns; on how relational patterns may be being repeated within the therapy; on the richness of your internal world (that emerges, for example, in dreams, daydreams, artwork, etc.); and on awareness itself, within which all of the above happens.

Welcome! It is always the most difficult of steps to reach out for help. I am glad to be a part of your journey for understanding, acceptance and change. Many times we approach therapy from an overwhelm place. Unsure of why or how to get to contentment and connection. We may find ourselves repeating painful patterns that do not bring us fulfillment. Sometimes, major life transitions can leave us feeling unsupported and lost. Working as a team, important changes in your life can be realized. When we are connected with our true voices, our lives can be transformed.

I like to start by building trust and finding out what goals you want to set for yourself. A safe, encouraging atmosphere with no authoritarian or shaming attitudes is important. Humor is useful with couples, families or teens. Role-plays are a fun way to practice new relationship skills.

I believe that therapy is most effective when it is empathic, collaborative, non-judgemental and non-pathologizing. I am deeply interested in the uniqueness of each human being who comes to me. By talking together in ways which nurture curiosity, compassion and insight we will look at what troubles you, what brings you hope, and which patterns of thinking/feeling/being you are engaging in that are not serving you well now.

Therapy is eclectic in nature using person centered, psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Psychotherapy is very rewarding and challenging work. Anyone seeking to make themselves healthier needs to know that and be open to change. Despite how difficult it is to work through the issues that disrupt our lives, the reward is learning that life is a process worth living and improving on a continuous basis. I treat people with trauma issues, depression, anxiety, PTSD, career moves, family issues, OCD, addictive behaviors, relationship problems and interpersonal unhappiness often beginning with providing psycho-educational information such as personal boundaries, basic human rights, safety, and coping and advocacy skills.

I believe we all deserve to be heard, understood and supported as we navigate challenges in our lives and therapy can be a great place to receive that. My goal is to create an environment where you feel safe to be your truest self without judgement and that when you attend therapy, you feel a weight lifted with relief. I believe deeply the strongest tool in therapy is the relationship we develop together so taking time to understand you and what makes you who you are is my highest priority.

I chose the name 'Voyagers' for this practice because I feel we are all on a journey together traveling through time and space. I picture the metaphor of a ship navigating the open sea, riding the waves just as we do in our lives. Realistically, there will always be unavoidable waves in our lives- some larger than others- and sometimes we need a helping hand to voyage through, safely, in a way that embraces our unique individuality. I have several years of formal experience working with youth and families in various systems of care, and made the transition to private practice in Early 2023.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
