We will use a combination of talk therapy, ecotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy to find the treatment that is right for YOU.
Too often, I hear clients say they’ve struggled to find the right therapist because they didn’t feel seen, or heard, or understood. Or their therapist sounded more like a textbook than a human, or treated them as simply a number rather than a person. My approach to therapy is to work with you on a very real, very human level while showing you that I am human too. We all have thoughts, feelings, worries, and fears that we struggle with sometimes, as well as experiences that can be difficult to move past. We all need help sometimes, and that’s ok. You are not alone.

Based on this, my therapeutic approach to counseling is to connect with individuals on a genuine and deep emotional and cognitive level.
Life can be rough and its easy to get into a place where one may feel overwhelmed or stuck. Its hard to find solutions, make decisions, or find a path out and it's often helpful to talk to a genuine and supportive person that can help to untangle all the things that race through one's mind when we are in a tough spot.

A real-life human who knows firsthand how hard it can be to begin therapy. I’d love to be the person who supports and cheers you on through it! "Success as a therapist is not found in doing something for the client, but rather in being someone for the client." In addition to noted issues below, I am especially passionate about working with teens ages 16 and up and young adults who may resonate with one or more of the following: pet care/animal rescue involvement, college/school stress, only child, athlete, highly sensitive, mental health student/professional, on a fitness journey.

Life is a process & change isn't easy. We can all benefit from gaining new perspectives. While you don't have control of the cards you're dealt, your power lies in how you respond. In addition to talk therapy, I'm an art therapist & believe art offers a portal to embodying our most authentic self. Art therapy offers endless opportunities for expressing & working through internal issues, & processing/releasing what may be difficult to put into words. Life is full of lessons & we can choose to use the challenges & problems we face as opportunities to grow & evolve. Therapy can promote the hope & self compassion needed to rise & thrive

Life is like a rollercoaster, full of ups and downs, twists and turns. I'm here to navigate through it with you. I believe in understanding our emotions and accepting that there can be multiple truths to a situation. Life isn't always clear-cut; it's full of shades of gray, and that's alright. Let's also learn to stop comparing ourselves to others and instead learn to be kinder to ourselves. Together, learn to embrace your imperfections and find contentment in who you are. After all, those little quirks we perceive as flaws might actually be your biggest assets.

I utilize a person-centered holistic approach and use techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused, Interpersonal, Play, and Structural Family Therapy when working with individuals, couples, and families.
Everyday life often brings about many joys but also presents us with many obstacles, challenges, and disappointments that sometimes feel unbearable and lead us feeling overwhelmed, sad, and hopeless. The way we think and process these events lead to how we feel about ourselves in relation to the world. I use a cognitive behavioral approach to treat disorders related to anxiety, depression, grief, anger, obsessions, and compulsions. I assist individuals with developing the tools and skills necessary to make cognitive and behavioral changes that can open doors of opportunity for change, growth and personal fulfillment.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
