Hello my name is Shayna and it's nice to meet you. I currently have openings for new clients. I am passionate about serving marginalized communities who have previously experienced harm within the mental health system as a result of institutionalized biases. Additionally, I specialize in working with folx transitioning into adulthood, individuals exploring their various identities including gender and sexuality identities, and survivors of trauma related to domestic violence and sexual assault. I have passion in serving the LGBTQ+ community and identify as part of the community. Trauma informed therapy is the basis for my work.

Perhaps you were raised in an environment that prioritizes mental health and is supportive of psychotherapy. Conversely, and as often the case, you were taught from caregivers that it was "weak" or "shameful" to obtain professional support, or to even seek help outside of yourself. These sentiments still permeate our culture, and though they are shifting, I find that they still lurk and impact one's drive to pursue mental health care. So in either case (and for all others in between), getting here was a process. In this spirit, I want to commend you for taking this huge and vulnerable step toward healing and deeper self-awareness!

I believe that recovery is a process which requires active, continuous involvement from the client, the therapist, and the entire treatment team. According to this belief, the four stages of recovery are hope, empowerment, self-responsibility, and establishing a meaningful role in life. The individual most responsible for a successful treatment outcome is you (the client). Dr. Weitzman has worked for the past 20 years in community and inpatient treatment settings. He has a vast amount of experience working with a wide array of complex issues including: anxiety disorders, depression and other mood disorders, substance abuse, emotional, physical, and sexual trauma and other various issues. His soothing and lighthearted demeanor creates a non-judgmental and compassionate environment to safely find the answers clients seek to the problems they wish to solve.

Some seasons of life are more difficult than others; through these difficult times I look to honor your story, while valuing who you are. My primary specialty is grief and loss counseling, where I offer safety, warmth and empathy to aid you in the healing process. I also love working with college students, and specialize in concerns surrounding identity development. I work with clients ages 24-50 and have experience with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, childhood abuse, trauma, life transitions, lack of confidence, perfectionism or stress-management. I am also a trained EMDR therapist.

As a 2nd gen Asian-American born to immigrant parents, my cultural identity has been one of depth and confusion. Holding values from my parent’s home countries, mixed with my American values; it has widened my understanding of mental health from a cultural lens. I'd like to provide a space for those exploring their identities and culture and how it has played a part in your upbringing and development. I understand family values are important, but sometimes can conflict with our own individual goals and experiences. In the space, I hope you can feel comfortable to casually show up as you are.
