I would love to help you with this process. Since the counseling relationship involves vulnerability and acceptance, it is important to find a “right fit” counselor. I will work to understand you and collaborate with you to help you reach your goals, and move into a space where you feel greater peace and hope.

If you have a child with behavioral difficulties and need to decrease outbursts, if you cannot get your adolescent to listen, or don’t know what to do to support your teenager who is struggling with mood swings, I can help. Whether you are an individual or a parent who wants to improve your quality of life, a couple or a family that wants better cohesiveness, I have worked as an individual and family therapist on many of the Hawaiian islands with local families and families new to the islands on a plethora of issues.

As a neuropsychologist, I provide neuropsychological assessments, diagnostic services, and treatment to a wide range of clients, from questions about a child's learning difficulties to concerns about a senior's memory that has started to impact their daily living. I also provide a wide range of evaluations for legal related issues from Independent Medical Examinations, fitness for duty to legal issues; such as testamentary capacity. I approach each person with care and consideration for their emotional well-being, cultural background, age, and life experiences that may affect cognitive functioning. My goal is to provide a comprehensive and quality evaluation product whether that be for an individual client or third-party. My endeavor is to give the client the information they need to develop the best treatment plan for neuropsychological health or legal outcome. An appropriate diagnosis is dependent upon a good history, interviewing family members, teachers and review of records as appropriate. I strive to develop a treatment plan tailored to the individual with written reports appropriate for the consumer, be they parents, adult children, physicians, or lawyers.

Sometimes we experience changes or events that disrupt our lives and ignite a series of overwhelming emotions. During these times, it is important to seek support to help guide you through this process. If you are experiencing anxiety, anger, stress, sadness or a sense of hopelessness, then I support your efforts in reaching out. If you have experienced a traumatic event or are currently in an abusive relationship and are looking to make a change, then I also encourage you to begin the process of initiating a “one to one” meeting with me. I am committed to providing the support you may need to encourage healing and change.

When you have stress or trauma in your life, it can feel overwhelming and life can unravel. Your children are acting out, your teen is being suspended or involved with law enforcement, or your younger child won't stop misbehaving at school. These are all stressful family situations that can feel overwhelming to anyone. My passion is to bring healing to people who have been through traumatic or stressful experiences.

Individuals can lead a happier, more productive life when they are engaged in the therapy process. I specialize in assisting individuals who are experiencing life transitions including divorce, illness, bereavement, and change of careers. I also treat depression, anxiety, addictions (including substance abuse), trauma, and a variety of other psychological concerns. I routinely work with individuals' physicians and a variety of other practitioners to create a comprehensive treatment plan. I am an anger management specialist, certified by the National Association for Anger Management Specialists as well as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). I am also a certified EMDR therapist.

Therapy offers the chance to become more present with ourselves. Together we contemplate the human journey. We can get familiar with our innate mindfulness and compassion. On my journey I've realized that well being can be learned; achieved with a level of skillfulness, a window of tolerance. Getting triggered helps us learn. I help individuals and couples study their nervous systems and their "parts" -- a complex legacy of neurobiological attachment wiring. With a manner that is warm, relatable, and active yet non-invasive, I help my clients find meaning, hope, and the freedom to become who they were meant to be.

Change is all around us lately. Are you simply surviving and searching for ways to thrive? Sometimes we have the tools and other times we need someone to inspire, create, motivate or teach us what it takes to thrive. I have worked on Maui, Molokai, and Lanai for the past 23 years. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families searching for ways to better themselves. I have provided support for people experiencing grief/loss, parenting challenges, trauma/crisis, children with special needs, prisoner reintegration, and couples/families searching for healing and growth.

I place value in providing a safe, open, nonjudgemental, supportive space that encourages individuals to find their inner strengths, self-acceptance and build new skills necessary for healing and coping with future challenges and building resilience. As a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 25 years of diverse counseling experience, I am currently providing psychotherapy services for individuals, families, couples, and children in Hawaii and California. My therapeutic practice style is experiential, offering tools and opportunities for self-reflection and emotional growth through empathic support and guidance in a safe and nurturing environment. Moani Silva is an LMFT who was born and raised in Hawaii. She has experience working with people from all different ethnic backgrounds and believes in treating the whole being. She uses a conscious and holistic approach when working with individuals, families and children to help them thrive and experience living life to its fullest. She works to empower clients to awaken their self-guidance system, embrace their authentic selves, open to a life worth living, and step onto their own unique life-path.
