The Coronavirus Pandemic has created a collective trauma. There can be some comfort in knowing that everyone is making sacrifices in this new uncharted world; however, each person’s experience is unique. Often there are unexpected ups and downs in coping that can be surprising and catch us off guard. I specialize in working with clients facing issues of trauma. I have always been fascinated in how the mind naturally creates coping strategies to help get us through tough situations in its drive towards survival. Sometimes these strategies are helpful, but other times they can hinder us from living life to its fullest.

I have experience with multiple populations; from children, teens, couples, and families to the individual seeking therapy. As human beings, it is paramount that we feel seen and known. As a Latina, I also have a desire to provide resources for black and brown people who have felt barred from therapy due to stigma within these communities. I hope you allow me the opportunity to provide a space for you on your healing journey.

The clients who come to me are having difficulty creating the lives that they want for themselves. Sometimes this is due to trauma in their background and other times it is due to other things that are blocking their personal goals such as grief or a break-up/divorce. Clients who work best with me are ones who want to build their internal resources so that they can knowingly move forward in whatever direction they choose.

Whether working with children, adolescents, teens or adults, my approach is to be compassionate and attuned to your unique set of needs, providing a space for you to feel understood, appreciated and learn self-acceptance, ultimately achieving more effective strategies for dealing with life's stressors.

Rooted Hope Counseling is owned by Kirsten Edwards, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 18+ years of clinical experience in schools, at a large Christian agency, and in private practice. Kirsten loves helping women and girls see their immense worth and helping all kids and families who are struggling and may feel anxious, stressed, and worn down. She loves finding fun and engaging ways to connect with children and supporting parents to problem-solve challenges. Kirsten also enjoys walking alongside clients who would like to explore issues of faith, and she offers Christian counseling for those who are interested.

While damage to such connection usually creates a variety of psychological difficulties, reverence to the inner wisdom is a contemplative stance of active listening to the interior music that heals and that connect us with the immensity of our inner life. The inner life has an intelligence that corrects and compensates the psychological imbalances that have created emotional challenges.
