I work with students experiencing the Underachievement Syndrome, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Reading Disorders (including learning disabilities, and Dyslexia), anxiety, obsessive/compulsive patterns and depression.
Is your child struggling with school? Children, adolescents and college-aged people often experience academic problems related to attention deficits, anxiety, obsessive/compulsive symptoms, depression and ongoing underachievement. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Structural Family Therapy help students and their families develop new patterns of relationship and change old, repetitive patterns that are not working. We can learn optimism (versus pessimism), persistence (versus procrastination) and engagement (versus avoidance). Neuropsychological evaluation helps to inform educational and treatment planning.

Life presents challenges, and one can get stuck, but growth is in sight. While understanding can lead to change and peace of mind, there are times when you could use a little help gaining a clear perspective. That's where therapy comes in. It's a powerful tool that can provide the direction and support you need to manage stress, loneliness, anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms or just to adjust to life's changes.

Hi there, I'm Kati! I’ve been working in the field of mental health for over 7 years. My early experiences consisted of supporting children and adolescents in crisis. I’d like to say that these positions, as well as having my own life experiences, have given me an edge in understanding the complexities of mental health and the human experience. Over time, my care for helping others expanded to an enthusiasm for working with people of all ages. I currently work with ages 11 years old and up.

I specialize in treating complex ADHD (ADHD + another mental health disorder) in LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals.
Hi, I’m Dr. Essence! As a queer, multiracial and neurodivergent woman, I have first hand experience with trying to embrace my identity, find belonging, and navigate a world that wasn't made for me. When you begin therapy with me, you are starting a relationship with a psychologist who has walked the walk as much as she can talk the talk. I value showing up as a real person, so I connect authentically with my clients by balancing encouraging support with honest feedback and accountability. Through my own self-disclosure and personal stories, I aim to create a safe space for you to grow into your favorite version of yourself!

As a queer, trans, neurodivergent (autistic/ADHD), and disabled person myself, I know what it's like to walk through the world in a marginalized body and to feel like you're on the outside looking in.

I specialize in providing therapy to LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent adolescents and adults, as well as anyone looking for a safe and nonjudgemental therapeutic home. If you have struggled in the past to find a provider who "gets" you, I might be the provider for you.

As your therapist, it’s my job to meet you where you’re at. What are you hoping to get out of therapy? Together, we can create a treatment plan and goals. Whether you’ve been in therapy for years or this is your first session, we will work together to figure out what will be most beneficial. Therapy sessions can look a variety of ways. Maybe it’s processing a recent trauma, identifying and breaking unhealthy patterns, or building skills. Our sessions will be a safe space where we can learn coping skills, build a better relationship with yourself and your body, figure out effective tactics for managing stress/anxiety, and more.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
