In my way of working with you, I lay my personal issues aside for our time together and give myself plenty of internal space to resonate with you on a gut level. As I hear your story in words I also hear it in feelings. A good therapist puts these two narratives together, the spoken one and the emotional one, in getting to an accurate understanding of you. When I merge this understanding with my training in psychology, which is extensive, I'm able to reflect purposefully with you about what might be wrong; about "how" you're hurting.

It’s hard to find a counselor with openings & even harder to find a highly trained psychotherapist with openings. If you’re reading this, I have openings. The patients that I see have often been to other practitioners in the field & did not get the help they needed. By & large, my patients get better. Here’s how: 1) specialized training+ that helped me understand why we are the way we are & what to do about it 2) 15 years experience with relationship/ mood problems, dissociative disorders, or personality disorders - I can walk you through a divorce or help you through a psychotic episode 3) thoughtful/ progressive continual learning

The bravery it takes to begin therapy is often underestimated. So is the pain. That pain is often a symptom of a psychological wound that needs to be treated with care and attentiveness. Working with me feels similar to physical therapy: soothing at times and challenging at others, but ultimately, healing.

Starting therapy can feel stressful and overwhelming. It can be hard to open up to someone that you don’t know. Life can take many unexpected turns and we need a space to process life’s challenges. Throughout my career, I have supported children, adolescents, women, and families in various areas, including but not limited to: Anxiety, Depression and Mood-related challenges, Stress Management, Self-worth, Relationship Issues, Anger Management, Life Transitions and Adjustments, and Grief and Loss. Together, we will work towards unlocking your full potential and building a solid foundation for long-lasting well-being.

I enjoy serving children, adolescents, teenagers and adults and learning how I can best meet their needs. A goal of mine is to help clients reach their full potential as we know how life can bring about many struggles. Choosing to attend therapy and making yourself vulnerable to another person is not easy. I do my best to create a safe environment for anyone to share any struggle they may be experiencing.

My approach to mental health counseling is very simple, one that encompasses unconditional positive regard and that encourages self-exploration throughout the therapeutic encounter. The client is considered the expert of his/her own life who may need support when challenges or obstacles become overwhelming and/or problematic (maladaptive). Through this therapeutic collaboration clients learn to identify how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors may positively or negatively impact their daily experience. If problematic belief patterns are identified, the client will co-create a treatment plan aimed to reduce the negative symptomatology while enhancing the client's self-esteem and overall well-being.

I provide an open, caring and safe environment for you to discuss your most private difficulties and challenges. I focus on building a positive therapeutic relationship to promote maximum positive change and growth. I specialize in highlighting the goals and standards that you want to achieve and processing how your daily decisions/actions bring you closer to success within that goal... or take you further away from what you would like to accomplish. I use Reality Therapy to help clients on improving present relationships and circumstances, while steering away from much discussion of past events.

We all experience challenges and opportunities to grow and emerge stronger. I believe most humans instinctively move toward higher ground. Sometimes we need someone to walk alongside us who can help keep hope kindled and discover new, less painful, costly routes on the climb. I've had the privilege to journey with clients for over 25 years. My passion is working with those who've been marginalized or who experience themselves on the edges of community. I love witnessing clients do hard things, sit in difficult places, and face what scares them most.

At Brain & Life Renewal Center, I am 1 of 4 BCIA Certified Practitioners in the Oklahoma City area. Neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that takes electrical impulses from the brain and creates a unique therapeutic protocol, based on the data received, to improve brain function. We can detect subtle electrical impulses from the brain by placing an electrode cap on the head. These electrical impulses are amplified, giving the Neurofeedback monitor the information needed to generate an individualized training program.

Life isn’t always easy and taking the first step in seeking therapy can sometimes be the most difficult. Even the strongest people can use help in dealing with some of life’s tougher challenges. My goal is to create a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental environment that allows you to explore freely in working towards change and solutions for your future. I strongly believe in meeting a person right where they are. I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” method so I am here to listen, understand, and empathize with you, whether that be during mood or life changes.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
