If you have painful memories or negative core beliefs about yourself, resulting from traumatic events, abuse, or childhood wounds, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is a powerful intervention that can be used to reprocess disturbing memories, distressing emotion, and hypervigilence to reduce felt threats, and restore safety and stability.
You are not your story! If you feel alone, unseen or invisible, asking "what's the matter with me?"or "why aren't I enough?" I want to create an emotionally safe space for you to be seen and heard, to help you safely process whatever events, feelings, or family of origin issues have led up to where you find yourself today. I am a trauma-focused therapist seeing clients virtually throughout NY, NJ, and MD, passionate about my clients finding freedom, healing, and self-kindness through our work. I specialize in betrayal trauma, childhood abuse and CEN (Childhood Emotional Neglect), addictions, emotional regulation, and suicide loss.

I work with goal-oriented women who want to succeed in breaking through old patterns of trauma, pain, and anxiety and who want to achieve their impossible. People often come to me when they have been talk therapy and feel frustrated by lack of change. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, or chronic and/or acute trauma, I applaud you for reaching out for help. The first step is believing that things can be different. I believe in the innate wholeness of all human beings and am inspired daily by the resilience and fortitude of the people whom I see. My mantra is: Hope. Belief. Change. Growth.

I am certified in EMDR, practice Brief Solution Focused Therapy, CBT, MindfulnessTherapy, and Existential Therapy grounded in kindness and emotional generosity.
To accept life's major changes with grace and dignity can be excruciatingly difficult. And yet, it is a challenge to welcome because when approached with careful consideration, it invites self-definition and intentional living. Are psychic wounds or limiting self-beliefs holding you back? What matters most to you? The Chinese sage, Lao Tsu, said, "If you don't change direction, you will end up where you are heading." Are you happy with your direction? If not, come see me. I listen carefully and help you find your way. I am an active, fully-engaged therapist.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
