If you have ever sought a psychotherapy that was less about symptoms and labels, and more about overcoming, problem-solving, and achieving life satisfaction, welcome. If you've ever felt like an alien on Earth, completely out of context, and that you needed to find your own real self again, we have that in common. I am a trained forensic psychological evaluator who has written many books on arts of healing and psychotherapy. I have been a holistic practitioner, and I guess the headline is I am a musical artist (Shockocracy). I am accepting a small number of artistic psychotherapy patients at this time, and I have staff available.

I do my best work with male clientele. Most of my clients are comprised of teenagers and college-aged males. My efficacy, particularly with adolescents, has its genesis in my sincerity, non-judgmental manner, knowledge of technology and disarming sense of humor. It is not uncommon to hear from parents, “we have taken our son to three other therapists and you are the only one he will talk to.” I also work well with college-aged males who have difficulty transitioning from high school to young adulthood. I have also worked with veterans and members of law enforcement; trust is paramount in my relationships with all my clients.

I help families break these difficult cycles by working with them to identify goals and establish plans and milestones to achieve them. I apply over 25 years of experience as I empower struggling individuals, couples, and families facing marital issues, divorce, anxiety, depression, and children/adolescents with self-destructive behaviors or ADD/ADHD as well as many other mental health issues. Given the current Covid-19 pandemic, VIDEO AND PHONE SESSIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Is your relationship in trouble? Do you wish you could communicate better with your partner? Most couples are able to positively transform their relationship when they are given the proper road map and the right tools. Over the last 24 years, I have created a therapeutic style that allows me to help my clients move from loneliness and despair, to relationships that reflect connection and joy. This is supported by my Master Level Certification from Terry Real's Relational Life Institute (one of only 30 internationally).

I strongly believe in treating the person as a unique person given their individual needs. I primarily practice cognitive-behavior therapy utilizing an eclectic style and often use anecdotes, paradoxes, and especially humor in order to enhance, educate, and assist in reaching each person's goals. I have a specialty in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorders, and Anxiety. While I specialize in treating those suffering OCD, Panic, and Anxiety, I am equally proud of the successes I've had in helping those with Adjustment Disorders, Stress Management, Depression, Relationship Difficulties, and Family Concerns.

People create meaningful change when they feel heard and validated. What I love about being a therapist is the ability to be a part of that process and help them adjust their perspective, confront challenges, and realize their worth and potential so they can create a value driven life. While my primary specialty is in anxiety/panic disorders and OCD, I work in a variety of areas, including creative/entertainment/sports professionals, men’s issues, sex/porn addiction, trauma, body and muscle dysmorphia, LGBTQ+ concerns, and anger management.

We all can reach points in our life where we become stuck and can struggle to manage thoughts, emotions and or relationships. These times can last for months or even years. Frequently we address these problems at least initially through our own means of self help. If these measures fail to unlock ourselves we can turn to psychotherapy as a process that can guide us to a different way of understanding and coping. Psychotherapy can assist in helping to understand and remove our self-imposed barriers.

Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
