I offer therapy both in-person and online to help best meet your therapeutic needs.
Sometimes admitting we need help is the most difficult step, which is why I am so glad you have decided that counseling may be right for you. One belief I hold near and dear is that everyone deserves a space that is solely for them; I hope I can help provide that space for you. Ultimately you are the expert on your life and your lived experiences, and I hope to be able to walk with you and help you to have a sounding board as you go on this journey.

Are you an adult who is trying to overcome and unlearn behaviors and feelings from your childhood? Are you wanting to learn more about your attachment to others (children/partners)? Are you looking to help bring control to various areas of your life that currently feel overwhelming? It is my priority to work collaboratively with my clients to empower them to take control and bring quality back to their lives. I believe that the therapeutic relationship plays an extremely important role in what you get out of therapy, as well as having a safe and non-judgmental space in order to begin making life altering changes.

Life is continuously presenting us with new challenges, often causing us to question our decisions, or how we will manage such obstacles. This uncertainty can lead to complicated emotions that may seem too overwhelming to manage alone. Genuine support and guidance, as well as a safe, non-biased environment may be the answer to overcoming these battles and gaining a sense of peace.

I work with individuals ready to do the honest work of healing. They often face trauma, substance use recovery, depression, anxiety, life transitions, identity, or relationship challenges, and want to understand what hurts, where it comes from, and how it shows up today. They are seeking lasting change, healthier coping, more secure relationships, and a sense of purpose, and want a safe, supportive space to explore and grow.

There are many different theories about how to manage unwanted behaviors in children, and how to help struggling teens. Some of these theories can leave parents with more questions than answers. You might ask yourself, "Does my child need more attention, or am I giving too much? Are my expectations of my teenager too high, or too low? If I ask for help, does that make me a good parent, or an incompetent one?” I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and their families, and I can help you find answers that fit your individual family’s needs.

What does it mean to "take care of your mental health?" It's easier to tell when you aren't taking care of it. Chronic stress, exhaustion, worry, and panic are all signs your mental health is suffering. If untreated, you could start having poor health, trouble in your relationships, and difficulty staying on top of work or school. There are many things that can lead to mental health struggles, like a too-busy schedule, a chronic illness or someone else's troubles, a major life transition, or the death of someone close to you. Or, it could seem to come out of the blue, caused by nothing at all.

I offer secure video, phone, and in-person sessions according to my clients' preferences.
I am most passionate about helping my clients recover and connect to their authentic self, helping them use that improved connection to heal and live more fully. Clients often need to find relief from fear, sadness, addiction, conflict, lostness. But lasting relief usually requires finding their true selves more fully. This may involve letting go of the anesthesia of addictions, overthinking and emotional disconnection, as well as shame and self-misunderstanding. Not everyone is ready or willing to do the deeper work that this requires, and that is ok. But as a therapist I am a better fit for those that are willing to try.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
