I graduated from UNCG in 2007 with my masters in community counseling. After becoming fully licensed I worked in the community, school, and inpatient settings providing therapeutic services and support. With 15 years experience in multiple settings, I began to specialize in issues ranging from depression, anxiety, and trauma, to difficult transitions like parenting, divorce, and empty-nesting. I continue to see a broad range of mental health concerns, genders, and populations. I meet clients where they are and work towards their goals.

Whether it is the loss of a person, loss of a job, or loss of a dream that you had once hoped for; I am trained and dedicated to providing a safe and compassionate space to process the phases of loss. I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families on a variety of issues, with concentrations and specializations in grief and loss therapy, as well as the postpartum phases of life and pregnancy/infant loss. In addition, I work clients with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, stress management, trauma, chronic illness, abuse, phase of life issues, marital/couple conflict and divorce.

At Emerge Child and Family Counseling we provide mostly a client centered approach to counseling to ensure our clients get the therapeutic services they need. We can utlize EMDR, CBT, DBT, Play Therapy, as well as other approaches. We are a full practice serving all ranges of clients with a focus on adults, children, teens, and support their families. We have multiple clinicians to fit with our clients to provide counseling where each person can build trust and foster a nurturing relationship. We are a smaller more focused practice where you feel more like family and welcomed, making treatment the most effective.

I am a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in treating individuals, couples, and families. I accept each individual without judgement while providing an environment of warmth, positive regard, acceptance, and compassion. I find that most individuals who are seeking help are stuck in some way, and hence, are experiencing anxiety and/or depressive symptoms. My goal is to assist the client by problem solving together in order to get back on the right track in attaining peace and understanding.

Most have been taught to monitor behavior, but few have mastered monitoring their heart. I am passionate about helping clients gain understanding and instill hope for change. By starting where the client is at, I aim to facilitate change as it relates to the mind, body, & soul. Creating a safe environment for a strong therapeutic alliance, each client is treated wholistically to discover one's true potential for conflict resolution. Dr. Susan B. Wilkie (PhD, LCMHC, LMFT) is an experienced, licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) and licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in private practice. Dr. Wilkie earned her doctoral degree in Mental Health Counseling at the University of New Orleans in 1994. Her post doctoral work was committed to Couple and Family Therapy for (16) years where she recently served as the Founding Director of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Pfeiffer University's Graduate School in Charlotte. She is now committed to her private practice full-time in the Belmont/Cramerton/Gastonia area.

My life experiences have been too numerous to count. I've had loved ones die, disappointments, medical problems, divorce, betrayals, and more reasons to celebrate than I deserve. I have been extremely blessed by Jesus Christ my Savior, who is the source of all my strength. With God's help, I have accomplished things I never could have imagined. My greatest joy has been raising my three daughters. God gave me wisdom and taught me to have compassion for others in their times of struggles, trials, and difficulties. He taught me to see others through His eyes. He is my constant companion and counselor. Jesus is all the world to me.

Currently I'm only accepting individuals for virtual session. As a marriage and family therapist I work with individuals, couples and family groups.Being an LMFT means being "systemic". I enjoy working with people with a variety of concerns such as: life transitions, relationships, sexual dysfunction, divorce/remarriage and health. I treat mental health issues as well as provide coaching. My focus is integrative, strength-based and client centered, meaning I'll work with you at your speed to achieve your goals. I view coaching and therapy as a collaborate process. Your motivation and our relationship is key.

Clients motivated to make change or enhance their interpersonal skills and relationships are my forte. I like working with clients of all ages on family relationships, interpersonal skills, parenting and co-parenting, anxiety/depression management, creativity and personal growth. I also have extensive experience working with domestic violence and trauma victims and adoptive families. I employ experiential techniques to enhance communication and understanding throughout the healing and growth process. I also provide Child Specialist services for collaborative/cooperative divorce candidates and parent coaching/consultation.

Through this experience, I have built my practice of clinicians who really are able to connect and listen to our clients. Helping them find their strengths and supports within their life, working on goals that are hopeful and achieveable, and finally helping them find their purpose in life, their relationships, and within themselves is the ultimate goal of therapy
