I have education, training and experience in working with PTSD (both combat and non-combat), depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.
I enjoy working with a variety of clients to overcome obstacles and challenges and increase happiness and satisfaction in multiple areas of life. My primary treatment approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy, meaning we work on changing thoughts and behaviors in order to change feelings, but I do incorporate other approaches when they would be beneficial. If you are seeking to improve your self-esteem, relationships, work, or school performance, I may be able to assist. Also, as an Army veteran and the spouse of a retired veteran, I understand the issues our military and families face.

Hey! Have you found yourself doing life, “adulting,” making the decisions, and yet something doesn’t feel right? Do you feel like you're wearing a mask, pretending that everything's just fine? You've tried "self-care," the books, yoga, and talking with friends, but you're feeling like a burden, or worse...damaged. Where do you go when there is no one else to turn to? You need someone who understands how your past traumas affect your present life. With the support of a trained trauma specialist and sex therapist, we can process these silent hurts together. We can find your renewed, confident self, bursting with self-esteem.

I believe people can change their life narratives and overcome negative experiences of childhood adversities or other trauma by learning new ways of coping, connecting, and managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in our relationships with ourselves and others.
It is my pleasure to work with adolescents, adults, couples, veterans, and active-duty military, as well as with groups. I enjoy collaborating with people of diverse racial, spiritual, and cultural backgrounds who have experienced trauma either in childhood, adulthood, or through the military service and who are seeking a safe place to overcome life’s adversities, learn a new way to function, and live a victorious life. I work with issues related to ADHD, anger, anxiety, drug/alcohol use, panic, PTSD, personal growth, racial identity, self-esteem, sexual assault, stress, stressor-related disorders, and career development.

I use a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to help create the space for highly-attuned conversations where you will likely have the experience of being seen and heard.
My goal is to develop and grow an authentic connection with you so that you feel empowered to put into words what your unique experience is like. We both know that, without trust, you will not feel comfortable sharing about yourself, your life, what you are proud of, and what you are challenged by. Your goals and interests in how to use our therapeutic relationship will determine where we go in sessions, and I am comfortable using elements from several modalities, from reflective and existential to solution-focused and practical, with quite a bit in between, always through a lens of attachment and neurobiology.

I am also well versed in Cognitive Processing Therapy to assist those who have been impacted by trauma.
DON’T WAIT, NOW IS THE TIME! Sometimes it’s difficult to share your life with others and talk about your struggles; however, talking through hard times can be one of the most empowering first steps you can make toward healing. Whatever your hardship is, help with an ongoing issue or time for a difficult transition, it would be my pleasure to work with you to develop an individualized plan and address your trepidations. I value your thoughts and self-determination and will gladly give an ear to support you when needed.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
