I specialize in eating disorders,
trauma
, and emotionally blocked folks who "live in their heads.
As a seasoned counseling psychologist, I have found that you "can't heal what you don't feel" and that most emotional difficulties stem from difficult experiences and relationships earlier in life. Helping you understand how your past experiences result in current struggles is a pivotal part of the help I offer. Additionally, I will provide you with tools such as mindfulness, symptom-based coping strategies, and emotional awareness exercises so that you can actively participate in your own growth. The foundation for our work is a compassionate and nonjudgmental therapeutic partnership.

Our goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. We all experience moments that leave us feeling hopeless, sad, frustrated, angry, or frightened. However, life is not meant to be lived in that place of darkness. While we can't change the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. Using complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will help unearth old behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. If you're ready to take steps forward, we are ready to help.

"Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars" (Khalil Gibran). While suffering is part of life, and moving on always a possibility, figuring out how to reorganize the pieces of our puzzle after
trauma
has occurred can be a daunting task. Too often, we allow our past experiences and our scars to define who we are, and we get stuck in a dark place, incapable of taking that first step. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to walk that path with you.

I firmly believe that everyone can benefit from therapy—whether our problems feel big or small, we all have things we can work on. I would love to see everyone with a primary care physician AND a therapist someday! I like to start out therapy by strengthening coping skills and stress management and then lead into identifying harmful thinking patterns and help you adopt healthier ways of thinking. From there, if need be, I can help you process past
trauma
, increase your self-esteem, strengthen your relationships, and improve anger management, self-care, mindfulness, and much more (this is just the tip of the iceberg)!

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
