I assist clients through different modalities and interventions such as CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), CBT-E (cognitive behavioral therapy specifically for eating disorders), motivational interviewing, and implementing components of psychodynamic theory.
I am Joden Ford a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based out of Hamstead, North Carolina. My main goal is to help clients with eating disorders or individuals struggling to heal their relationship with food and/or body. I make it a priority to assist clients through their recovery from an eating disorder by building new habits, embracing self compassion, and understanding how certain eating habits developed. I started working with eating disorders in 2017 and became passionate about this population. My goal is to help clients take control of their lives and prioritize their mental/physical health.

My approach incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness with aspects of motivational interviewing.
Life is chaotic but that does not mean your healing should be held back. Growth begins when you are ready for it, and I would love to help honor that decision you have made for yourself and provide support. Choosing healthy change can be hard and deserves the right environment to protect, nurture, and expand what all is in store for you in achieving your most authentic self. Through time together, my clients are able to receive a safe environment free of judgment, and a genuine assistance . My goal is to create a space for you to be fully open and to find support, positive affirmation, and safety of your feelings in each session.

Evidence-based treatment approaches utilized include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-focused therapy, and trauma-informed therapy.
Are you a human? Great! You can benefit from therapy. Only semi-joking. On a real note, if you are anxious, depressed, stressed, unable to sleep at night, scared, mentally absent, have low self-esteem, experience flashbacks, nightmares/terrors, misuse substances or have a loved one that missuses substances, have difficulty focusing and staying on task and/or have a child that has ADHD, experience anger outbursts and/or abrupt mood changes, carry around childhood wounds from which you have never healed, have difficulty adjusting from a life-changing event, or are riding out the waves of grief, then you are a good fit for therapy.

Waitlist for new clients
I am well versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
There is a little voice in your head that keeps telling you that you cannot do it. You're not good enough. That voice continues to plague you with doubt, anxiety, confusion, and anger. You question: Who am I? What am I supposed to be doing? You are constantly trying to implement change but find yourself unmotivated, procrastinating, and feeling “lazy.” You try and it just feels too hard. The voice in the back of your head becomes louder and reminds you that changing is hard. You’re then left to spiral into a ball of anxiety or depression.

While I have been formally trained in Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, I believe in using a combination of modalities in order to best meet the needs of my clients.
Clients who are considering scheduling with me are most likely experiencing some type of life transition; whether its coping with the death of someone close to you, caregiver fatigue and burnout, parenthood, women's issues, fertility and family planning, or really any other challenge presented by living in the current times. Depression and anxiety may accompany these challenges, or may pre-date them. Either way, developing coping skills to manage them is imperative. Therapy is a collaborative experience between the client and the clinician. Your goals, are my goals.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and when possible, Animal Assisted Therapy.
Hi, I'm Kat! It is my honor to walk beside you and tackle the hard things that you may be struggling with while providing a safe space to do so. Together we will explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors you may be experiencing, and gain a deeper understanding of how those elements interact to shape sense of self, make choices, and determine how you engage with the world. I believe that developing such insight can help with healing from past hurts, becoming un-stuck, and moving toward meaningful change. I work with children, teens, adults, and families as they navigate through various circumstances.

Real change means real work. You must put forth effort and action to have a deeper understanding of the old patterns that exist. I hope to develop a safe, open relationship in which you feel safe to look at your patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that are holding you back from where you want to be, and develop a pattern of self awareness, and explore the possibilities before you. Telling our stories aloud allows us to have the conscious choice to move forward in the direction we want to take it

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
