I am seeking clients who are looking for support navigating life transitions and finding more balance in our busy lives. As a previous K-12 educator, I also hope to work with educators and helping professionals as there is a large need for ongoing support in such a taxing career. I have a passion for perinatal mental health and provide services and support for women who are experiencing infertility, pregnancy, postpartum, or transitioning into motherhood. I will be certified in Perinatal Mental Health through the Postpartum Support International to provide services to women in December.

If you are searching for meaning in your life, appreciate a good metaphor, and are looking for a different approach to therapy that doesn't focus on a diagnosis, I might be a good fit for you. Looking for an approach that connects you to your ancestors and the cycles of the earth? Like to paint, draw, or otherwise engage your creative side? Enjoy being outdoors? Feel better after laughing, singing, or moving your body? Been told you are too much, don't conform, are non-compliant, or you're a weirdo? Whatever is going on for you, I'm here to help you embrace who you are, in all your beauty and difficulty.

As a therapist, I seek to join my clients in the creative process of therapy, to come up with helpful solutions to ease their struggles and bring more joy back into their lives. We walk together through the fog in search of pockets of sunshine. I strive to not only see my clients’ emotional health, but also their physical, spiritual, and relational health, looking to each for clues that might hold healing. I am innately curious, compassionate, and focused on my clients’ strengths.

Greetings! My name is Myret and I'm a pre-licensed counselor in Minnesota. Everyone has issues and sometimes we need help to alleviate our distress. I approach each person uniquely and believe the individual is the expert on their own experience and have most of the insights needed to help reach their goals but may not have the tools necessary to do so. I aim to provide a safe and open space for one to explore those elements of self required to see the changes they desire and to facilitate growth. My goal is to help you achieve the level of functioning that you wish for.

Our world is complex and navigating it can feel overwhelming. The only constant is change and sometimes it can be hard to know what’s next. Is it any surprise that we sometimes get stuck? I work with couples, individuals, and families and help them work through difficult times by creating new paths.

I find that we seek out therapy when what has worked is no longer working and we are feeling stuck, which calls us to understand ourselves differently and move towards change. While change can be uncertain, therapy can offer a deeper understanding of your authentic self and what you need. I have a particular interest in working with individuals experiencing life transitions such as academic and career change, family of origin transitions, family changes, grief and loss, interpersonal distress, trauma and relational concerns. I'm passionate about connecting with teens and adults of all backgrounds and identities.

I went into counseling with the relatively young mindset of a simple desire to help people. This started in third grade, when I was curious about what motivated people's behaviors and emotions. I am now a clinician with over 20 years experience in the world of mental health, trying to help people simply feel better as all of us journey through life. I sincerely enjoy connecting and working with people in order to find solutions to issues, relationships, or situations that are life-interfering.

I believe for better and for worse, we need humans. The for better, when we are living in healthy connected relationships, that generally feels good for us. The for worse, it’s really hard to human with other humans, and this is often a source of our distress. As a therapist, I help clients better understand their past and present relational patterns. I help clients find healing to empower them to show up as their authentic selves. Therapy can be so ambiguous at times. It is for this reason I provide individuals with the brain science of how we interact in the world while helping them set clear, realistic goals in their lives.

I am happy you are reaching out. I'm of the mindset that everyone can benefit from therapy. Each of us has unique worries or concerns. We may say to ourselves, “I don't want to burden my friends and family with these” or “I just can't imagine anyone listening to me without judgment”. Choosing a therapist that you feel comfortable talking to is essential. I understand that many times the only way to build self-compassion, improve relationships, and cope with stress is to start off feeling understood, respected, and valued. My ideal client comes to psychotherapy wanting to make change in their life. I believe in psychotherapy, that change is possible, and that small changes can lead to big differences in our lives. I look for clients willing to make these small changes, follow through on psychotherapy goals, and see what the outcomes are. I have worked extensively with college students, people with addiction struggles, professionals with ongoing mental health needs, couples and families, and artists and musicians.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Duluth?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
