I have experience with a variety of therapeutic approaches from diverse and multicultural perspectives.
I know that the process of beginning or continuing therapy can feel confusing. It's important to me to support and empower clients through this process by providing clear information on the work we do in session. Together, we explore what supports them best in the therapy space. I see therapy as an opportunity for co-creating a map to help clients clearly navigate their thinking and behaving patterns, and those of others. As a team, we work on cultivating a safer mental space for one to thrive.

Having a multicultural background myself, I appreciate the significance of cultural diversity in shaping one’s identity and experiences.
I understand therapy can feel daunting, and throughout my years of practice, I have come to believe that empathy and genuine understanding are the cornerstones of therapy. My approach is rooted in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where my clients feel free to explore their emotions and thoughts.

I also take pride in having a multicultural perspective and being willing to learn about one’s culture and how it influences them.
The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination. As a clinician, it is my goal to help guide you in the right direction of your personal good life. While providing a secure, trustworthy environment for you, together we will work towards the process of building the best version of yourself. While I primarily use CBT in combination with Psychodynamic Theory, my approach is more importantly based on a foundation of empathy, compassion, and respect. I will work collaboratively with you to identify your unique needs and goals, and tailor my interventions to best suit your individual needs.

I am currently only accepting new patients for testing, not therapy. An important aspect of my practice is creating a space that allows us to explore the obstacles people face and develop tools to remove them. My primary focus is neuropsychological assessment for individuals struggling with a spectrum of concerns, including ADHD, Autism, and dementia. I am certified by the ACBIS and Brain Injury Association of America as a Brain Injury Specialist and work closely with other providers to ensure that all aspects of a person's health are addressed. I have also been certified by IBCCES as an Autism Specialist.

Are you noticing that your child is having trouble expressing their feelings in a healthy way, engaging in more frequent arguments, showing reluctance to attend school, or struggling with anxiety? In today’s unpredictable world, children and teens are increasingly overwhelmed and uncertain on how to navigate life’s stressors. Parenting a child who is grappling with anxiety, low self-esteem, or interpersonal relationship issues can leave you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and searching for answers to transition your family from merely surviving to thriving.

Personal growth and healing centers around finding and rediscovering the tools to overcome obstacles while developing a unique path towards a healthy quality of life. Exploring and reinforcing inner strength, determination, resilience, and insight are some of the ways that I work with adolescents, college students and adults to assist them on their mental health journey. My approach to counseling stems from an integrative lens in which I incorporate research-based modalities from Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness practices and Solution-Focused Therapy.

"Mental health isn't a thing. Talking about feelings and experiences isn't going to help. Things will get better by just putting my head down and powering through. I'm strong, self-reliant, and I don't need any help. I'll be fine just the way I am." These are all valid thoughts and feelings for an individual to have and many people believe these statements are true. Stereotypically, men especially, fall into these thought patterns. The numbers reflect this, approximately 30% vs 70% of those seeking counseling are men vs women. We are taught men don't have feelings and if they do they sure as hell don't talk to anybody about them.

Each of us holds the power to choose the manner in which we give meaning to our life circumstances and experiences. Earlier automatic and unconscious patterns often get in the way of moving forward in an empowering and liberating way. Identifying these patterns, learning the practice of self-reflection and gaining self-awareness is the foundation of personal growth and transformation. In addition, focusing on the present moment, the practice of mindfulness, learning to trust the inner voice and emotional responsiveness leads each client to a more conscious place of being. Moving forward with conscious choice and courage is the key.

There is a lot of anxiety and uncertainty during these times. Voicing your stress and receiving support and validation in return can relieve some of that weight off your shoulders. Finding healthy ways to cope and allowing the time to focus on your needs are what we can do together to bring more stability into your life. As a counselor and art therapist, you will find yourself in an environment that centers on your self-growth and empowerment through talk therapy and creative expression. Neurodivergence, the recognition of more brain functioning than the neurotypical standard, is also a core practice you'll find with me.

Multicultural Therapists

What type of therapy is multicultural therapy?

Multicultural therapy is not tied to any specific therapy; rather, it is an overarching approach to therapy that aims to acknowledge and address the influence that factors like race, gender identity, and cultural background can have on someone’s life. Multicultural approaches can be applied to CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and others, and can be practiced with individuals, couples, families, or groups.

What can I expect from multicultural therapy?

Multicultural counseling should be tailored to the client’s unique identity and cultural needs. Such approaches often prioritize the building of trust so that the client feels comfortable exploring various aspects of their identity and any challenges caused by mismatches between their identity and the dominant culture. Beyond that, the format and timeline of therapy will be heavily influenced by the therapist’s preferred therapy approach and the specific problems for which the client sought therapy.

Can multicultural therapy help treat trauma?

Yes. Cultural factors such as racial background, gender identity and or sexuality, and immigration or refugee status can influence both whether someone experiences trauma and how they cope afterward. Multicultural approaches to trauma-informed care will be aware of these influences, helping the client recognize how their response to trauma may be shaped by their cultural background and identify coping mechanisms that take their identity into account.

What are the benefits of seeing a multicultural therapist?

Members of minority groups who seek therapy are sometimes frustrated by providers who don’t understand their cultural background or dismiss the ways in which race, gender, or other facets of their identity influence their lived experience. Seeing a multicultural therapist can help these clients feel seen, understood, and able to develop solutions to life challenges that take their upbringing, beliefs, and past experiences into account.
