Thank you for viewing my profile. I am a professional mental health counselor that specializes in adolescent care. I specialize in working with teens and young adults that struggle with numerous difficulties, including ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma. While I currently serve many younger children and their families, I am currently only accepting teens and young adults (college age) in order to diversify my practice.

I specialize in treating children and adolescents who may be experiencing behavioral challenges, attachment issues, anxiety, depression, PTSD and eating disorders. I treat adults who may have past history of trauma. My focus is on developing a safe, trusting and strong therapeutic relationship in order for healing to occur and to have a sense of hope restored. I engage clients through a use of a number of therapeutic approaches including; superhero therapy (with kids and adolescents), motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy, art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy.

I provide a safe nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where you can tell me your story and we can freely explore all of the issues of your concern and your goals. Together we’ll develop a plan that works specifically for you and will move you towards creating goals that are attainable for you. I will equip you with tools to reach your goals and overcome the challenges you face now and challenges you face in the future. I believe in a Client-centered, Cognitive-Behavioral approach with an emphasis on personal responsibility, accountability, and ownership of problem solving to bring about personal change. I specifically use the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model. The goal of ACT is acceptance of what is out of personal control, and a commitment to action for life improvement and enrichment. Additionally, mindfulness training including meditation, relaxation, and guided imagery can be used for therapeutic intervention.

John Tuttle graduated from Western Michigan University with a Master of the Arts degree. John is licensed in the State of Michigan as a clinical mental health counselor. At his most recent placement he diagnosed and treated patients with various disorders and worked with clients desiring help with relationship issues, difficult circumstances, and life stage adjustments. He currently owns and is the primary therapist at Lakeshore Guidance, LLC. John also holds a Master of Education degree from Grand Valley State University and has worked in elementary and middle schools on anti-bullying programs and crisis response intervention.

Every client comes from a different background, with different experiences, needs, thoughts, and expectations. With this in mind, my goal is to listen, discuss, and try to understand my clients, where they are coming from, who they are, and why they need me. Together with my clients, we work to identify goals that the client feels are significant and important, and then develop plans on how to achieve these goals in reasonable, managable, and most importantly, healthy steps.

The office is quite unique - - very large, ultra comfy, w/MANY natural oddities... slightly chaotic -- like life! Good strong coffee/tea/soda & munchies always available. Pets welcome. I'm adopted myself, a licensed foster parent, & work with trauma and attachment. I have a multi-cultural family & lived abroad (Africa). I do co-parenting therapy & am also very familiar w/court systems, working with Dr.'s, lawyers, schools and custody issues.

My post graduate experience has been in behavioral health and I have been practicing as a therapist since having obtained my Master’s degree. I specialize in working with kids, adolescents, teens, and young adults, on issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, school related issues, behavioral concerns, learning to regulate emotions, and family issues.
