I am a licensed clinical psychologist with specialized training in pediatric neuropsychology. I complete assessments to evaluate the cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral functioning of children and adolescents. Is your child showing signs of anxiety, excessive irritability or sadness, tantrums or emotional outbursts, defiance, attention concerns, learning difficulties, developmental delays, and/or social challenges? I can help you understand more about how your child thinks and feels. Most importantly, I can give you clear recommendations about how to move forward and best support your child.

I also have expertise in evaluating academic needs of high school and college students diagnosed with learning disabilities or related conditions such as ADHD.
*NOTE: I AM CURRENTLY CLOSED TO NEW REFERRALS* Welcome! I hope you are successful in your search for a clinician to address your concerns and that the information here will help with your decision. Some of my core values as a psychologist are to work openly and collaboratively with my patients. I generally work from a contemporary/relational psychoanalytic perspective. So, along with focusing on the here and now difficulties you face, I strive to understand how past experiences and relationships influence expectations about the future, and how these unconscious expectations can drive maladaptive patterns.

“And then the day came, when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom “ Anaïs Nin. I use a "here and now" approach and believe therapy is a joint effort in healing emotional wounds so that my clients can live more fully and peacefully in their present life. I believe relationships are healing, and a strong connection and open dialogue is the most effective path toward change. It's important to find a therapist who makes you feel safe, valued and understood. Both my professional and personal experiences have demonstrated to me how challenges can be opportunities for personal growth

Waiting list at Capacity. I am a child psychologist and deeply respect parents who seek support for themselves and their children. My therapeutic approach is nonjudgmental, creative, and respectful of each individual's unique experience. I invest significant time and energy in establishing a strong partnership with your child and help him/her develop a personal investment in therapy. By prioritizing these two important elements, I have helped many children who have not benefited from therapy in the past. I also provide a therapeutic experience that is comfortable for children who are initially opposed to or skeptical of therapy.

I am currently at capacity and not accepting new clients. Are you finding that your life isn't what you envisioned? Especially an authentic person who believes that the process can and should include laughter? Clients are often pleasantly surprised with the wide array of tools and experience I draw on, including guided meditations created based on your preferred images and desired length. I then emailed to you, to access at any time.

I can see any client in Maine and NH via teletherapy but I am not credentialed with insurance companies in Maine, only NH. I help guide my clients to understand how their upbringing, worldview, culture, personality, and view of self affect how they are feeling, behaving, and thinking currently. One goal of mine is to help my clients maximize their wellbeing by better understanding themselves through the use of coping tools like mindfulness to slow and calm themselves enough to be able to assess their own thoughts and emotions in the moment so as to minimize regrets while reducing mood and behavioral symptoms.

Life is a maze of ups and downs, we are taught to push away the downs and "keep moving" without acknowledging our true feelings and needs. Before you know it, fear, anxiety, trauma, depression, self doubt begin to take over and guide our decision making process. Your truth, who you are, and what you want starts to get lost, life becomes exhausting, unsatisfying and lonely. How might it feel to safely explore and validate your emotions and needs? Deepen your understanding of who you are and how you function through exposure to thoughts, feelings and behaviors that take over and create dysfunction in your life.

Education and Learning Disabilities Therapists

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
