Living might be one of the most exhausting things you can do. You may have lost your sense of 'why' in your romantic relationship, parenting, sex, or your career. I work with individuals and couples who are wanting to address challenges in relationships, experiences of trauma, and general dissatisfaction with the status quo. In our work together, we will take a look at the things that are holding you back from living the life you want to be living. I might also tell dad jokes. I probably will tell dad jokes.

There are three type of people that I LOVE to help: Parents who are at their wits end with their kids, young adults who are resentful/angry with their family and pregnant/postpartum folks who are undergoing an identity shift. Understanding family dynamics and the impacts that they have are a huge part of how I practice clinically.

Any approach to treatment used will be grounded within both a trauma-informed and client-centered space.
Life, especially over the past several years, has been both challenging and filled with change. A therapist can be a supportive ally in coping with and processing through any obstacles that may come up. My clients are ones that would benefit from being mindful in how they are spending their days and whether or not those activities are helping them reach both their short and long-term goals. I am experienced in working with clients of various ages and backgrounds, and my primary focuses are on ADHD, time management skills, and supporting others through significant life transitions.

Are you trying to cope with a difficult situation or relationship, but the emotions sometimes feel overwhelming and you’re not sure what to do? Are you stressed about family issues, work, or your quality of life? Are you striving to do your best, but nothing is working? Are you being hard on yourself and believing that’s the only way to get motivated? Maybe there has been a transition or change in your life recently and it’s thrown you off course. Old feelings of unworthiness and doubt are bubbling up again. You feel confused and have lost direction. Life doesn’t feel as good as it once did and you know it could be better.

It’s not natural to live in a perpetual state of discontent and anxiety. Yet, this seems to be your experience lately. Your life feels incompatible with the way you dream about feeling in your wildest heart. Many days are spent going through the motions, bobbing along the surface hoping you don’t get pulled under. On these days you wonder if your vision of the life you’ve dreamed is merely a mirage in the desert…but you don’t believe so- something tells you there’s more. You have found success by many standards, yet you feel blocked from accessing more joy, ease, contentment, and embodiment of the things you picture yourself to be.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
