There are three type of people that I LOVE to help: Parents who are at their wits end with their kids, young adults who are resentful/angry with their family and pregnant/postpartum folks who are undergoing an identity shift. Understanding family dynamics and the impacts that they have are a huge part of how I practice clinically.
If you are looking for a therapist who will agree with you 100% of the time, I'm probably not "the one". I gently (and frequently) call BS on my clients. I became a therapist because I wanted to help people see how they are, who they are and why. Because if they don't like what they see, they can change it. But what if no one ever helps them to look?
I understand what it's like to be a parent. I also understand what it's like to be an adult child to a parent (maybe more complicated?). Both of these roles come with big emotions, expectations and a lot of self-doubt. Am I good enough? Am I doing this right? I know it's scary to call, but you've got this.
