I have specialized in treating anxiety in children, teens and adults for the past 14 years.
As a fellow parent, I understand that there is no greater pleasure than to see your child happy and healthy. But excessive worrying, relentlessly demanding OCD rituals, the fear of vomiting, social anxiety , and self-harming behaviors like hair pulling and skin picking can rip away the joy of childhood and bring anguish to the family. I am a warm, compassionate, and very active cognitive-behavioral therapist with many years of success in helping children and teens recover from these challenges. I work as a team with parents, including them in at least part of every session.

When you’re going through a challenging time and are looking to experience change, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed by everything you “should” be doing to achieve your goals. I strongly believe that “small hinges swing big doors”. Change happens incrementally, not overnight. I enjoy supporting adolescents & adults who are struggling with anxiety , depression, people-pleasing tendencies, life transitions, stress-management, and emotional dysregulation.

Normal life events can be stressful when they exceed your ability to cope. Losses like the death of a loved one, separation/divorce, relocation or retirement, or an "empty nest" may threaten your emotional and physical health. Even positive events like marriage or the birth of a child require substantial adjustment. While small amounts of stress can be a positive motivator, prolonged exposure to stress may lead to anxiety , depression, and physical health problems. If you are feeling overwhelmed or unsure of how to cope with the demands placed on you, it is probably time to see a therapist.

Operating from day-to-day while experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety is tough! I'm thankful that you reached out and I want to listen to you.
I believe in a holistic approach to psychotherapy. Psychotherapy creates a safe space for wounded people to work toward healing within the security of the therapeutic relationship. I understand your problems through both clinical and spiritual perspectives. I believe that true healing and freedom come through faith in Christ Jesus so I am guided by the Holy Spirit within my clinical approach. I believe in the Biblical truth of John 8:36, "Whom the Son sets free is truly free indeed". My therapeutic practice reflects that freedom and healing are possible for all clients who are bound by psychological pain and trauma.

Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life and a necessary emotion.
Your life is spinning out of control and you’re about to crash. You’ve tried everything, but you’re overwhelmed and struggling to find balance. You’re confused, anxious, numb, and emotional and don’t even know why. You probably feel ashamed that you feel this way, but no one knows that. You’re a Christian and you know we’re supposed to have it together, but for you it’s different. Life has left you heartbroken, your spirit shattered, and you feel like God has forgotten you.

"Fear lives in the head. And courage lives in the heart. The job is to get from one to the other" - Louis Penny. It is inevitable that we will be wounded during the journey of life. Many of those wounds generally heal on their own. However some wounds cut deeper. They are unable to heal themselves and leave scars causing broken relationships, anxiety , addiction, insecurity, fear, and pain. Facing these wounds can be frightening and overwhelming, especially when facing them alone. Together we find the courage and strength to face and heal these wounds.

I work with depression, anxiety , stress, relationship issues, identity issues and mood disorders.
I view therapy as providing a safe, comfortable environment where a client is invited to share their journey through healing. As the therapist, I walk alongside you in trust to provide insight and guidance. I believe the client is truly the expert on his/her own needs and desires. It is my role as the therapist to bring these needs and desires to light. From there, I work with the client to evaluate the best ways to bring about change in their lives and how to practically implement those changes. This healing process empowers clients as they discover strengths and a deeper sense of peace.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
