People present to therapy with different backgrounds and needs: addressing anxiety or depression, navigating stressful life events, trying to find your voice and strength, dealing with difficult relationships, academic or work concerns, or struggling to understand yourself and your emotions. Therapy is a safe place to address these, and many other concerns, through exploration, support, and building the skills and strategies you need to feel safe, confident, and competent.

I work with teens/adults struggling with anxiety , depression, concerns related to gender identity, trauma, and life transitions.
You're not sure when it happened, but you don't recognize the child sitting in front of you or the person looking back at you in the mirror. You want to feel happier, healthier, and more confident, but nothing seems to work. You feel stuck in the past, making it difficult to enjoy the present, causing the future to feel hopeless. You feel so overwhelmed that you can't stop worrying and focus on work or school. You wish you could find the right words that will let others know how you're feeling and the struggles you're facing. You just want to feel empowered to ask for help when you need it, hoping you don't have to do this alone.

It is important for an individual to be free from the fear that does not allow one to reach a place of understanding and self-acceptance. Whether it is struggling with a past trauma, loneliness, anxiety , anger, fear of not being accepted, feelings of being “too much” or “not enough”, I practice from a place of compassion and non-judgement. When a client expresses, they are ready for a change, I will “meet them where they are at” in the therapeutic process. I enjoy working with diverse populations, at any stage in life, including individuals who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

I am a licensed psychologist who helps people struggling with difficult issues like anxiety disorders, OCD, chronic insomnia, and panic attacks. I love working with people who have been told their OCD and anxiety symptoms are "difficult to treat" or for whom therapy has not been effective in the past. Because different types of therapy work better for different people, I use cognitive, behavioral, and person-centered approaches to healing. I strongly believe therapy should always be about improving your life however you want to live it – never about what a therapist believes would be best for you.

We may or may not know what exactly we are dealing with, we just know that we want to feel better. Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
