About
When working with clients, I utilize a client-centered, collaborative approach. I focus on meaning, encouragement, and support to help my clients obtain awareness, understanding, and acceptance of themselves. I approach the counseling relationship from a perspective of "meaning making" which suggests that people act on what they believe about situations, not the situation itself. Together, we use that knowledge as a basis to explore, assess, illuminate, unravel, and move forward through obstacles towards a goal-oriented outcome.
Some important work I do is with families who suffer from addiction. When a newly recovering family attempts to navigate their old surroundings, it can be stressful and frustrating. This may cause a strong desire to return to old behaviors and is important for families in early recovery to explore.
I am a community liaison for MusiCares® (http://www.grammy.org/musicares) providing a support group for musicians and music industry workers every Wednesday from 6-7pm.
I use my experience as a professional musician to help those in the creative arts. I also provide treatment and intervention referral services.
