I have worked with children and adolescents, ages 5 to 19. Many of them struggled with issues related to trauma (parents with addiction, an incarcerated parent, neglect and abuse). I have worked with adults on developmental issues in schools and churches. I believe people of all ages possess the power to change, especially when they are supported in a safe environment.

Today our complicated and fast-paced lives are full of pressures that challenge us in countless ways. "How can I find happiness in my marriage?", "How do I cope with...?", and "Why do I feel so out of control?" are some of the questions I hear from clients seeking to understand their life journey and questioning what they can do to reach their true potential - individually, as a couple, or as a family. Soul searching is rarely an easy path to take, yet wanting to achieve an emotionally healthy life is usually the motivator which begins the process.

I can help with your off balance career, your grief, marital stress, and chronic anxiety or depression.
We all need someone to hear our story, to respect our tears, and to help us be courageous as we walk the path toward healing. I stay present through your pain, hurt, and discovery. Trauma, doubt, and fear can easily consume our thoughts, and provoke emotional distress and a sense of loss. Beginning the processing step can feel scary, but it certainly doesn't have to be a journey you take alone. I am here, ready to hear your story and help you navigate these feelings and reconnect you with your authentic self. Let me know how I can help.

I also work well with anxiety, depression, life transitions, marriage and parenting issues.
Seeking help for life’s struggles is not an easy task especially when it requires our emotional exposure. I believe it takes a very courageous person to seek help and be vulnerable. If this is you, I want to congratulate you! I consider it an honor and a big privilege to walk beside my clients who are facing hardships in life. I believe therapy can be extremely helpful when the client is approached with welcoming, comforting and the nonjudgmental heart of a therapist.

You sit on your bed, heart pounding and face flushed. You’re still reeling from the fight you just had with your wife. It seems like these arguments are becoming an everyday occurrence. You ignored the problem for as long as possible before reaching out to those around you. But friends, family, therapists, and even your pastor have been no help. You’ve always relied on your faith to navigate challenges, but it’s not working this time. You’re ashamed that you’re struggling in this way and feel like you should be doing better as Christians. You both love each other and want this marriage to work again, but it feels so hopeless.

I have experience working with all ages and for relational and clinical issues including: marriage, infidelity, trauma, grief, sexual abuse, physical abuse, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, divorce, personality disorders, ADHD and childhood concerns.
My goal for the counseling relationship is that you, the client, and I, the counselor, will develop trust with one another, work as a team to define and explore present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life, and work toward those goals. While my counseling philosophies are informed by a biblical worldview, I will in no way pressure or require you to uphold my morals, values, or religious beliefs. As the client I respect your value/belief system and will ask that you inform how that is incorporated into counseling.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
