I believe that we have to be able to live and deal with stress and issues in the present to achieve success, joy and peace that we seek. Life situations and/or Mental Illness can keep these from happening. Having that neutral person to be a support person can be what's needed . My specialty focus lies in dealing with Depression, ADHD, Marriage Therapy, Anxiety, Infant loss, and Trauma. I have experience with kids, adolescents and adults. Approaches used are (CBT, Psychodynamic Therapy, Gottman Method and Play Therapy) effective with children, adolescents and adults.

As a Christian Minority Marriage Specialist I have assisted couples reconnect with providing them with practical tools to use during therapy and at home.
Are you and your partner tired of arguing and not getting problems resolved? Do you feel disconnected from your spouse? A few issues couples often struggle with are Communication, Conflict, Finance and Blending Families. We are in relationships because we enjoy the companionship, want to build a family together and want to experience love and intimacy.

I specialize in marital (couples) counseling, trauma/ PTSD, sexual addiction (porn etc.
I see counseling as an effective collaborative working relationship based on mutual trust and respect. I was born and raised in Germany and have successfully worked with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds over the years. Cultural sensitivity is therefore very important to me. Prior to moving to Kentucky, I practiced counseling in Wisconsin and Minnesota since 2005 at various clinical settings, such as outpatient mental health clinics and in private practice. I also provide spiritual companionship and leadership coaching (see my website for details).

I am very interested in helping people with PTSD, alcoholism and addiction, and marriage and family/parenting issues, as well as men’s issues, military/veteran issues, career/life transitions, and those interested in faith-based/Christian Counseling.
As someone who wants to change the world, I chose the counseling profession because I came to believe the best way to facilitate that change is by helping individuals, marriages, and families become fully healthy emotionally, physically, relationally, and spiritually.

Symptoms related to anxiety, depression, and marital/relational distress are the most common complaints that I work with.
Therapy is about connecting with another person in such a way that you feel understood and valued, while trusting that your best interest is being served. There are many different ways to achieve this goal. My approach centers on working with people to understand their unique values and beliefs, which ultimately guides their experiences, and developing goals and strategies together to work toward their desired outcome. By asking the question, "what does better look like?", you are already on your way.

I believe that everyone comes to a time in life when they face their own personal “truth in the room”. This can be as simple as private self-reflection or as complicated as trying to save a relationship or marriage. Maybe you have a child who is out of control or a sibling who suffers from substance abuse. Whatever brings you to therapy, know that it is my goal to partner with you as you work toward personal growth and wellness. Strong individuals are able to have strong relationships and healthy lives with meaning and purpose. My ideal client is one who is ready to explore "who they are and to do it on purpose".

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
