Mark is a Christian but many of his clients aren't.
Most of us want to be good people who have our needs met and enjoy our family and friends. Most of us struggle at times to get there. We need a little help: Someone to listen, help us think things through, or to give us some coaching about life and relationships. Or maybe we are in serious trouble and really need professional help. Taking that next step is often scary. For 30 years, Mark has helped 1000s. 85-90% of his clients say they are very satisfied with their counseling. He's genuine, accepting, effective. Ready to take that step?

I'm supposed to say something compelling in this space, like convince you that I'm your type of therapist. Who can do that in 640 characters? LOL Dude, if you suffer or struggle, I'm here to tell you that doesn't make you a weirdo, it makes you one of us, a normal hu man person. If you struggle at work or school or home or with your family or inside your own head or with your body or with nasty things that have happened to you, maybe I can help you process through some of that. If you want to do better with whatever it is, odds are we can get there.

We all get wounded in the battles of life -- some of us in tragically dramatic ways, and others of us bleed through the piercings of a hundred small injuries. Let me help you get to the core of the struggles and back on the road to living your life again. Perhaps it is an addiction you can't seem to get rid of, or that haunting sense of inadequacy or loneliness. It may be anxiety or depression, gender identity issues, or past trauma. Maybe for you a relationship you value has have become difficult or painful.

I'm not the expert on your life, YOU are. With the perspective of an outside observer and insight born of experience, I seek to help you map out a path to pursue healing and wholeness. I believe that ignoring your heart is as dangerous as following your heart. I instead seek to help you understand what's happening in your heart, so you can explore your inner world and respond out of a place of self-awareness and growth.

I specialize in High-perfor mance individuals that live under a constant state of perfor mance pressure, Parents who want to understand what their child needs in education (gifted or learning difficulties), and Attorneys that want fair and honest data to decide what needs to happen in complex child custody cases. As someone who has lived in these scenarios, I've developed tools and techniques to help you find the answers you need. Whether you are worried about your child, feeling burned out, or need an accurate assessment for court, I'll strive to give you the care and attention I'd want for my own family.

I’m a recovering people-pleaser myself, so many of my clients say that they finally feel seen and understood.
Have you confided in friends asking for relationship advice, only to hear, “just hang in there, it’ll get better”? Do you find yourself hoping tomorrow will be different, believing your partner will change, clinging to those rare moments of kindness? Have you found yourself crying, feeling invisible and voiceless, using temporary distractions to numb your pain? Do you always put others' needs before your own trying to feel connected, only to end up in that dark place again, feeling alone and stuck? If you want to break free from this cycle, reclaim your authenticity and connect more deeply with others, I would love to work with you.

Are you curious why sometimes things are going great, but you cannot really enjoy them because you are waiting for the other shoe to drop? Do you feel stuck? Ever wondered why certain movies activates tears and other situations is almost laughable? Ever wondered what EMDR would be like? These are just a few areas of real life I work with, you are not alone.

Many people go through life holding the belief that they have to keep their pain and suffering silent.
Being a hu man is hard sometimes; especially if we were not taught the skills needed to successfully navigate through life. Many people have not been excused from experiencing life issues, and partnering in therapy can be a great way to explore life moments in a safe and confidential manner. I specialize in EMDR, a form of therapy that helps reduce emotional intensities brought about from unprocessed past experiences. I also utilize DBT, a skills-based form of therapy that teaches mindfulness, skills to help regulate emotions, relationship skills, and strategies to tolerate distressing situations.

Counseling as a whole is in higher and higher need. We've seen inflation in Missouri and across the US, horrible things happening in current wars, and of course, there is the pandemic we went through that affected literally everyone in the world. We also have, what for many will likely be, a stressful election year. Even without these things, life brings its challenges, but add the stressors we've been through for over 4 years now, in addition to the personal stressors we face, and it only makes sense that many people just like you will benefit from additional support and professional help in processing through life's difficulties.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
